9-1-1 7×05 “You Don’t Know Me” focused on Buck continuing his journey figuring out who he is, and being comfortable with it. Meanwhile, Hen and Karen start a new journey of their own with a new foster child, and Eddie learns some surprising news about Marisol (but do we care about this relationship?) Let’s review.
Buck’s Coming Out
The episode starts with Tommy and Buck’s date. It doesn’t look like a total disaster at the beginning although Buck is nervous, which Tommy notices. Buck admits that this is his first date with a guy, and things quickly take a wrong turn when Eddie shows up with Marisol. Buck freaks out which makes Tommy cut the date short.
Is anyone surprised that this date went wrong? It wouldn’t be Buck if there wasn’t some drama. But this was different. It wasn’t that Buck wasn’t into Tommy. He was. And is. But he was nervous about letting Eddie know he was on a date. Later, Buck had a nice heart-to-heart with Maddie, which we loved. She shows that she is the best sister and accepts Buck for who he is. She listened to Buck and gave some great advice. And she made him see that maybe he is still figuring things out, and maybe he’s just not ready to let Eddie in. And that’s okay.
But at the end of “You Don’t Know Me,” Buck realizes he does want to let Eddie in and tells him he was on a date with Tommy. We think this was a huge step for Buck, and we are so proud of him. We’re proud of Eddie, too, because he loves Buck and he makes it known that this doesn’t change anything between them. They are still best friends.
Buck meets Tommy for coffee and asks him to be his date at his sister’s wedding. That’s a huge step, and we were a little surprised, but also happy for Buck. Of course, this is 9-1-1, so that wedding’s not going to be boring (more on that later).
Hen and Karen’s Fostering Dilemma
Hen are Karen were super excited to welcome a new child into their home, but the young girl’s grandmother changed her mind at the last minute and wanted to keep her. The social worker did have another child in mind for Hen and Karen, but this girl is nine years old and comes with some pretty serious baggage.
When Mara first comes to stay with Hen and Karen, she doesn’t speak at all. She wakes Hen and Karen up in the middle of the night screaming and throws a mug at Denny causing him to need stitches. They don’t want to give up on Mara, and we admire that, but Denny is their first priority so if they had decided they couldn’t keep Maura because she was a danger to Denny, we would have understood.
Luckily, Hen has resources, and with the help of Athena and Maddie, they are able to discover what happened to Mara. How awful is it that Mara discovered her parent’s bodies after they overdosed? That’s why she woke Hen and Karen up. Hopefully, now that they know this and they made a few modifications, the family can start to move forward and help Mara heal. Things were looking up at the end of the episode.
Eddie and Marisol Living Together?
So Eddie and Marisol moved in together this week. However, that didn’t last very long. At the beginning of the episode, Eddie discovers that Marisol was a nun (or at least tried to be one but didn’t make it past the novice level) which freaks Eddie out. After talking with Bobby (we love that everyone goes to Bobby for advice), he realizes that he’s not ready to live with Marisol. We could have told Eddie that. Maybe it’s just that we haven’t seen much of this relationship, but we don’t think it’s that serious. And, to be honest, we just don’t care that much about these two. Something just seems… off. They just don’t have chemistry and that connection that makes us want to root for them.
Other Thoughts:
- We couldn’t stop laughing after what happened with Buck and Eddie at the very beginning of the episode. That guy’s hand had a mind of its own.
- It was heartbreaking when everyone thought the dog had died. Thank goodness Hen didn’t give up!
- We are so excited to see the rest of Chim and Maddie’s wedding. And the events that led up to it. Where is Chim? What happened to Eddie and Buck? It’s a little disappointing we have to wait until May 2nd to see what happens, but we have a feeling it will be worth it.
