Some books (like Just One Day) deserve to be made into movies or television shows. Sometimes, you have to wait for that to happen. But if you wait, life has a way of going around, and we circle back to the books that you knew would be great. There will be someone who brings them to life and knows the material. They understand the material.
Just the way that Gayle Forman says that Katherine Newton understands Just One Day.
It was announced that the actress will be starring in the series that is in development from Amazon Studios. She will also be producing.
If you haven’t heard of the book, it is part of a series. The two books are Just One Day, which is told from the female point of view, and Just One Year, which is told from the male perspective.
Foreman posted about the development, saying, “The news is finally out! Just One Day is being developed as a series by @amazonmgmstudios and starring the incomparable @kathrynnewton!!!!”
She continued, “I’m so excited that Allyson and Willem’s stories—which I know have touched so many of you over the years—will have the room to be told with all the accidents and romance of the books. And Kathryn, who so GETS Allyson, is starring and co-producing (swipe through to see how cute she looks in a black bob). The writers Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper are incredible. And Patrick Moran and Lynley Bird have shepherded this to life so thank them!”
The post ended with the quote, “We are born in just one day. We die in just one day. We can change in just one day. We can fall in love in just one day. Anything can happen in just one day.”
The official synopsis of the book is as follows, “Allyson Healey’s life is exactly like her suitcase—packed, planned, ordered. Then on the last day of her three-week post-graduation European tour, she meets Willem. A free-spirited, roving actor, Willem is everything she’s not, and when he invites her to abandon her plans and come to Paris with him, Allyson says yes. This uncharacteristic decision leads to a day of risk and romance, liberation and intimacy: 24 hours that will transform Allyson’s life.”
It continues, “A book about love, heartbreak, travel, identity, and the “accidents” of fate, Just One Day shows us how sometimes in order to get found, you first have to get lost. . . and how often the people we are seeking are much closer than we know.
The first in a sweepingly romantic duet of novels. Willem’s story—Just One Year—is coming soon!”
Newton also posted about the news on Instagram, saying, “JUST ONE DAY. A beautiful story… if you haven’t already read it!!! U should! I am beyond excited… @primevideo great partners in PKM Productions, Patrick Moran and Lynley Bird and genius writers Sherri Cooper and Jennifer Levin and of course @gayleforman the author of these amazing books, and @annamastro4 ! ❤️ “We are born in just one day. We die in just one day. We can change in just one day. We can fall in love in just one day. Anything can happen in just one day.”
