Wrexham AFC’s current season in the EFL Championship is ongoing, but they already have three more seasons of Welcome to Wrexham to look forward to. That’s right, Wrexham fans. FX has given the Emmy Award-winning docuseries a three-season renewal, taking Welcome to Wrexham through an eighth season, expected in 2029.
Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds purchased the 3rd oldest professional football club in the world in 2020. Since then, the club has achieved back-to-back-to-back promotions. Notably, their stewardship and the work of everyone at the club brought the Reds into the English Football League’s Championship for the first time in over 40 years.
Mac and Reynolds, co-chairmen of Wrexham AFC, released the following statement about Welcome to Wrexham’s renewal:
“A three-season order for a TV series is nearly unheard of and is only possible through the ground-breaking work of our Emmy-winning documentary team and the relentless rise of Wrexham AFC and all those working so hard to make sports history. We are forever grateful to our equally fearless and tireless partners at FX for being with us every step of the way. We are so happy we get to keep telling the Wrexham story for years to come.”
This news comes ahead of the show’s return for its fifth season. It will have a two-episode premiere on Thursday, May 14, at 9/8c on FXX and Hulu. The episodes will stream internationally on Disney+. The eight-episode season will release with one episode weekly.

What Is Welcome to Wrexham Season 5 About?
On the heels of its historic three consecutive promotions, Welcome to Wrexham Season 5 will follow the team’s quest to reach the Premier League. That is “a feat that has never been achieved in English Football League history,” so no pressure.
The season will also feature new summer signings, “while heavy competition and rising costs, combined with limited ticket availability due to the building of the new Kop stand, lead to new challenges for the Club,” per its synopsis. Meanwhile, Wrexham AFC Women’s Team has a new coach, new layers, and a permanent home in Season 5. They seek to be at the top of the Welsh Adran Premier League.

I’ve followed Wrexham AFC Women’s Team’s season closely. I’m excited to see that captured in the show. Wrexham AFC currently sits seventh on the Championship’s table, with their last match set for May 2 against Middlesbrough F.C. While the future is yet to be written for this incredible football club, a three-season renewal is a vote of confidence from everyone involved that magic is happening. Rightfully so, the Welcome to Wrexham cameras don’t want to miss a second. That’s a huge win for fans of the show and the football club.
“When we launched Welcome to Wrexham, we never imagined the impact it would have on the club and the town while creating one of TV’s most successful and beloved docuseries. This three-season renewal is a testament to the vision of Rob and Ryan and the enduring connection they’ve built with fans around the world,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment.
Welcome to Wrexham is executive produced by Mac, Reynolds, Josh Drisko, Bryan Rowland, Jeff Luini, Humphrey Ker, Nicholas Frenkel, George Dewey. Boardwalk Pictures’ Andrew Fried, Dane Lillegard, Sarina Roma, and Andy Thomas also executive produce. Welcome to Wrexham is produced by More Better Productions, Maximum Effort, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Boardwalk Pictures.
