Ghosts Season 6 might not be coming back to us until 2027, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t plenty of news coming out of San Diego Comic Con this weekend. In a panel moderated by Collider’s Perri Nemiroff, we get some fun details about the upcoming season and various arcs.
Earlier, Deadline also confirmed that Ben Feldman will now be upped to a series regular, giving us more time to spend with Kyle while the ghosts have another human who sees them. The dynamic will be fascinating with Jay as well, and now that Mark knows the secret, too, the means of communication between the mortals and ghosts is bound to become twice as entertaining.
Alongside showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, cast members Utkarsh Ambudkar, who plays Jay, Asher Grodman, who plays Trevor, and Román Zaragoza, who plays Sasappis, were also in attendance at the SDCC panel. There, we learned that we’ll be getting a two-part Halloween episode, and the usual two-part Christmas special to give us something to hold onto while we wait for Ghosts Season 6 to premiere. Naturally, because of these two holiday episodes, the series will give us a time jump after the Season 5 finale.
Both holiday specials are typically loaded with expansive lore and hilarious hijinks, so we now know that this year’s Halloween episode is going to introduce us to Hetty’s sister, Margaret, and with it we’ll get more insight into their strained relationship. A Hetty-centric episode always delivers tenfold with the work that Rebecca Wisocky brings to the table, and there’s no doubt about the fact that we’ll get something remarkable this coming fall.
But that’s not all. The two-part Christmas special, which generally comes with wildly hilarious possessions of some kind, will deliver a twist on Die Hard this year.
The sixth season will include the show’s 100th episode, and considering the rarity of that achievement these days, we’re also bound to get something special for the show’s return. Other than those details, two crucial matters were teased at the SDCC panel, one of which will finally give us insight into how Zaragoza’s Sasappis died, and we’re also told that the ghost boundary rules could change a bit. This particular fact seems fitting considering Pete’s life might be in danger because our traveling ghost spent a little too long being away from Woodstone Mansion. Presumably, with the time jump, that’s something we’ll learn more about in one of the holiday specials because it’s hard to imagine this show leaving us in the dark about his disappearance until 2027.
Lastly, despite all this information, we don’t yet know when the new season will premiere in the new year, nor do we have any information on the holiday dates. We’ll update these when we do, but in the meantime, we know that CBS has a new supernatural series, also developed by Port and Joe, titled Eternally Yours, which will fill our Ghosts fall slot, giving us something deliciously spooky while we wait.
