If there’s one word to describe the Ghosts Season 5 finale, it’s whiplash. A chaotic turn of events that’s expected from this show at this point, but to this degree is something we haven’t had since the Season 3 finale, where it seemed like one of the ghosts was sucked off, but we didn’t know who.
With a two-hour special to combine its penultimate episode, “Up the Creek,” and the season finale, “Across the Pond,” Ghosts delivers the kind of doozy that’s both emotionally satisfying and a little agonizing.
Woodstone Mansion Is Saved in the Ghosts Season 5 Finale

The fight for Woodstone Mansion to stand another day feels like it’s been such a constant in the show that it’s hard to believe we might actually have a concrete solution to Sam and Jay’s seemingly endless financial troubles. Between different corrupt buyers and who knows what else, these two can’t catch a break until Nancy saves the day in what might just be the biggest move yet.
The fact that Ghosts writers can find ways to surprise the audience five seasons in is no small feat, and in the finale, they do this through Betsy Sodaro’s Nancy by revealing that our basement ghost was actually a princess once upon a time. That’s right, she isn’t just wild-mouthed Nancy, she’s Princess Adeline Marie Dunham of Bedford. But in the world overrun by AI and forgery and Photoshop, it’s not that easy to prove that Sam and Jay are telling the truth without concrete evidence, so it’s off to London for photographic proof to verify that the necklace they have on location is actually the real thing.

In another means to throw in something hopeful to the mix, there’s actually interest in Sam’s screenplay, which means that she can’t actually travel because she has to stay behind for meetings. Still, Jay steps up, and Ben Feldman’s Kyle returns to accompany him with Pete, where they locate the painting in some Indiana Jones-inspired archival quest that eventually saves Woodstone. (And everybody cheered!) But here’s the catch: at this point, we really can’t keep testing the B&B and how it’s doing narratively.
As a sitcom, there’s enough room for Ghosts to raise the stakes without larger issues driving the plot and frequently threatening Sam and Jay’s livelihood. Things should at least be a little chill for a bit before we start knocking anything more down, even if the house is safe from demolition.
What Happens to Pete at the End of Ghosts Season 5?

Pete Martino is an integral character in Ghosts and one of the core eight at that, so the series writing him off feels like an unthinkable thing. There’s no way. There can’t be. And especially not without proper closure of some kind with all the ghosts, as well as with Sam and Jay.
Still, as much as Pete’s traveling ghost power has been tested, we’ve never gotten to a place where he’s fully disappeared the way he does in the car as Jay and Kyle are driving back home from the airport. That, in and of itself, is a worthy plot twist, but it’s not something I’m too concerned about given the nature of the show. How or when Pete returns is something I imagine we’ll find out soon enough, but the tension it provides ensures that the Ghosts Season 5 finale is a solid episode.
My heart was in my throat the entire time as we watched only his head remain while Kyle tried to talk to him, and that beat delivers all the momentum necessary to make waiting for Season 6 feel like an impossible task. Pete’s ghostly body might’ve faded, but I really doubt we’re losing our favorite nerdy travel agent.
When Does Ghosts Season 6 Premiere?

With a number of CBS shows getting delayed releases, Ghosts is unfortunately one of them. We aren’t getting Season 6 until sometime in 2027, but we are getting a Thanksgiving and Christmas special in 2026, so we’ll hopefully see the answer to Pete’s state in one of those episodes.
