Get ready for more Penn Badgley!
EW is reporting that Badgley, better known for playing Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl and for his role in Easy A, has now landed a new role that – to Gossip Girl fans – might sound a tad like retreading on old ground.
Badgley is slated to play Joe Goldberg, the main character in Lifetime’s adaptation of the physiological thriller You. The adaptation, from executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sera Gamble, Sarah Schechter, Leslie Morgenstein, and Gina Girolamo is based on Caroline Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name.
The novel follows an obsessive, yet brilliant bookstore manager named Joe who uses the internet and social media to make the woman of his dreams, an aspiring writer named Beck, fall in love with him.
The Role of Beck has yet to be cast.
“You is the most twisted love story ever,” Liz Gateway, Lifetime’s EVP and head of programming had said in April, when the series was given a straight-to-series, 10-episode order. “A romantic thriller centered around a relationship between two people that gets taken too far, the series explores the line between passion and obsession.”
