‘Shadowhunters’: 8 Questions We Want Answered At SDCC

So the other day on Kat McNamara’s Instagram live, she let it slip that Shadowhunters will be attending San Diego Comic Con. We’re excited that Shadowhunters is coming to SDCC and that Freeform is coming to the event.

We’ve been around for Shadowhunters at several events and we know that the live fan fare is intense. Bringing that kind of intensity to a place such as San Diego Comic Con – where you will have a large mix of book fans and show fans, we’re interested to see what kinds of questions they will be addressing at the event.

We’ve got a lot of questions of our own.

WHO IS SEBASTIAN REALLY?

It was said in an interview previously that  Sebastian got his skin melted/torn off in hell and that he underwent significant torture.  That being said, since Sebastian on the show is “impersonating”  Sebastian Verlac down to inhabiting his body and looking exactly like him, does that mean Will Tudor is just temporarily playing the character? Since that’s not what Sebastian actually looks like? And why make the decision to have him be a shapeshifter when Tessa is a shapeshifter in TID? Doesn’t that render her power irrelevant? Also why is he bothering with complicated kidnapping and disguises when you invented a shapeshifting rune and he could easily look like whoever he wants?

WILL MAGNUS AND ALEC NOT BE ADOPTING?

Since Caterina adopted Madzie according to Todd, can we assume Magnus and Alec won’t actually be adopting her as suggested by the showrunners earlier?  Speaking of Madzie, if a five year old warlock can get into the Institute by waving her hands around, what is the point of the Institute?

WHY THE CHILD QUEEN?

Why did you make the Seelie Queen a child in appearance? Even if she is a grown woman in reality, her flirting with Jace and Simon had uncomfortable overtones, and we wonder why you didn’t take the opportunity to display a strong adult woman Downworlder?

WHERE ARE THE FEMALE DOWNWORLDERS?

Speaking of which, why were there no female Downworlders at all at Alec’s downworlder meeting? Is it a good idea to make it seem like Alec only knows the few Downworlders he’s met through Magnus, when someone qualified to run the Institute would know many more?

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT WITH CHANGES IN JACES CHARACTER?

Why did you decide to erase the significance of the inquisitor’s sacrifice for Jace by having her live? Will Jace now be a significantly different character because he has living family and why did you think that was a good idea?  In the books, Jace isn’t particularly promiscuous, though he is a flirt. What was behind the decision to have him have a lot of meaningless sex?

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT ABOUT YIN FEN IN THE STORY?

Why did you decide to make yin fen into addictive vampire venom when that effectively destroys the Infernal Devices and the character of Jem Carstairs? Can we hope that if TID is developed that the mythology of that series won’t copy the yin fen of Shadowhunters?

WHEN WILL THE BAITING STOP?

Why does your social media continue to use terms like “Clizzy” and “Saphael” to bait fans when it’s clear the show will not deliver either pairing? We’re curious to know what the benefit of doing such things is and how that is not an insult to the fandom – both book and show?

ALL THAT BEING SAID, WHAT CAN WE EXPECT IN SEASON 3?

We’re fully aware that the series is not the books. However, with all the confusion over season 2 and the drop in ratings, we’re wondering what we can expect for season 3 and what will happen to turn the show around? Will there be an attempt to bring in the book fans that have intentionally been isolated?

Shadowhunters airs on Freeform.
