A Discovery of Witches, a new contemporary fantasy series, is set to fill the hole left by The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, True Blood and every supernatural show that we’ve loved and had to unfortunately say goodbye to in the past couple of years.
The Sky One series is based on the first book in the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. This first installment tells the story of a forbidden romance between Professor Matthew Claremont (Matthew Goode) and Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer.) One is a vampire and the other a witch. And any love or companionship is forbidden by both of their kinds.
Of course that isn’t going to stop them. (Saw that one coming a mile away!)
As they get to know one another they test the boundaries of old rules and start to shake the world of demons, vampires, and witches alike. Top that off with a long-lost spell that Diana has discovered in an old book that everyone wants to get their hands on, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster and good TV!
We will admit that the forbidden romance is cliche and that we’ve seen it done over and over. *cough* Twilight *cough*. But a cliche’s a cliche for a reason. People like it. People are draw into it. And this will draw people in. If not for the story then maybe for the cast as Owen Teale (Game of Thrones) and the amazingly talented and unforgettable Alex Kingston (Doctor Who) are also set to appear alongside Goode and Palmer.
Here’s hoping we get to know more about the story, cast, and behind the scenes work that went into making A Discovery of Witches when Sky One brings the series to San Diego Comic Con!
