In an effort to build a space for queer people like myself, every Tuesday I’ll be posting interviews, opinion pieces, listicals, reviews, and more focused on the LGBT community (and occasionally about the Latinx/WOC community since I am Latinx.) Welcome to Queerly Not Straight! Enjoy and leave a comment below if you have a suggestion for what I should cover next.
Ever since Adaline’s song “Ghost” blew my mind away in Wynonna Earp‘s “Friends in Low Places” I’ve been on the hunt for music that made me think of this ship. And oh boy did I find songs that are familiar to many and songs that hit the mark on what makes this couple so special. So, sit back, pop in your headphones, and think about Wayhaught while listening to these talented musicians!
1. Ghost by Adaline
Keep me waiting anticipating
Keep me waiting anticipating
You keep me waiting anticipating
And now I know what I’ve been missing
‘Cause I feel your body like a ghost
Breathing in me everywhere I go
Even when she’s with me
We’re not alone
2. The Closer I Get by Brighten
You spin me in circles
You ruffle my feathers
Change my directions
I’m off to better weather
I will see you soon
Darling your heart beats faster and faster the closer I get to you
My past will show this feeling won’t last her more than a day or two
But you, I will get you
I will get you
3. I Do Adore by Mindy Gledhill
Everything you do, it sends me
Higher than the moon with every
Twinkle in your eye
You strike a match that lights my heart on fire
When you’re near, I hide my blushing face
And trip on my shoelaces
Grace just isn’t my forté
But it brings me to my knees when you say
Hello, how are you, my darling, today?
4. Write My Story by Olly Anna
I’m the only one that can write my story
And nobody else’s gonna do it for me
Anything at all that I wanna be
I got it all right in front of me
I’m the only one that can write my story, write my story
Imma do it like this, do it like that
Do it like this, then I’ll do it like that
5. Squeeze by Fifth Harmony
End of the night, looking at me, what do you see?
Wish I could read your mind
Dimming the light, here in the dark, going by feel
Only the moon to guide
When we’re alone, I get so close
Give me your warmth I’ve never known
Face to face, caught in a wild embrace
This is the safest place I’ve ever known
6. Wildwood by Fleurie
I’m wide-eyed and it’s midnight
I can’t sleep and I don’t feel right
I’m caught in the shadows of your limelight
I’m wide-eyed and its midnight
And all I see is you
All the heads keep turning
In my mind like parachutes
My heart’s still burning over you
7. Kiss Me by Rebel
Kiss me out on the bearded barley
Nightly, beside the green, green grass
Swing, swing, swing the spinning step
You wear those shoes and I will wear that dress
Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor, lift your open hand
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon’s sparkling
So kiss me
8. Breathless by IMUR
It’s been awhile since I felt this way
It’s been awhile since I’ve felt
You got this way about you, you got this way about you, you got this way about you
You, you make me melt
Those eyes are greener than the trees that give me oxygen to breathe
Yet leave me breathless
You make me feel a way inside that reminds me of the tide
Swept away
Wynonna Earp is set to return 2021 on SYFY.
