The Super Squad could gain a new member when Legacies returns for Season 3 in 2021. Deadline exclusively reported that Leo Howard, who plays Sheriff Mac’s son Ethan, has been promoted to a series regular for the upcoming season.
You may remember Ethan as one of the humans Hope Mikaelson connected with when she tried to live a normal life at Mystic Falls High School. Howard made his debut as the student and football star in Legacies Season 2 Episode 1, “This Year Will Be Different.” He only appeared in two other episodes in Season 2. It would be funny if Legacies didn’t properly address Ethan’s absence and, instead, pretended nothing was amiss.

Season 2 also introduced Ethan’s sister Maya portrayed by Bianca Santos (The Fosters). Both siblings took a liking to Hope before she returned to the Salvatore School. Ethan’s mother, Sheriff Mac portrayed by Bianca Kajlich (Dawson’s Creek) joined the show at the top of the last season. Her relationship with Alaric Saltzman developed quickly. This likely has to do with her believing he was a normal high school principal.
Leo Howard’s promotion raises the question of whether we’ll get news about more promotions in the near future. It only makes sense for us to see more of Sheriff Mac and Maya since Ethan will be around more.
We’ll take all the Legacies news we can get, because we seriously miss this show. Last season’s major cliffhanger encourages our anticipation for Season 3. Season 2 ended early with Hope and Landon’s lives hanging in the balance.
