Kevin Feige came to the Disney Investor Day 2020 event dressed as Santa Claus in disguise. After a year-long draught of all types of Marvel content, the Head of Marvel Studios dropped one bomb after another, leaving fans shocked and amazed in the wake. Feige started with the beginnings of Phase 4 with WandaVision and announced programming that will premiere in Phase 5 of the MCU.
There’s so much news to wrap our heads around that it feels impossible to know where to start. That’s why I have created this very handy list of all the news you need to know with the most updated premiere dates for as many projects as possible. Now you have one list to refer to if/when things shift around in the future.
WandaVision Trailer
Feige debuted a new WandaVision trailer with plenty of new footage. It’s too much to break down here, but it’s a must-watch. It’s an even closer look into the warped reality of WandaVision.
He also confirmed that WandaVision leads into not only Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but also Spider-Man 3. There have been rumors that this would happen, so it’s nice to hear him confirm suspicions.
Marvel also shared a new poster for the series on all the social media platforms. Don’t forget WandaVision is set to premiere on Friday, January 15th on Disney+.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Cast
While Feige didn’t have any footage to present from the next Doctor Strange film (as it’s only started production a little while ago), he did announce some casting news. He let us know that Elizabeth Olsen has already started work on the film as Wanda Maximoff. He followed up on the news that Rachel McAdams would return, which was originally reported by Deadline. Plus, announced that Xochitl Gomez will appear in the film as America Chavez.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to premiere on March 22, 2022.
The Falcon and the Winter Solider Trailer
We got actual footage from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It’s been so long since we got a first glimpse of Sam and Bucky in action again during the Super Bowl TV Spot , that this trailer really does feel like a Christmas gift.
Marvel also shared a new poster for this series as well. Most importantly, Feige casually dropped that TFATWS would premiere on Disney+ in March 2021. The poster then confirmed that it will premiere on March 19th. That’s soon. So soon.
Black Widow and Eternals Premiere Circumstances
Feige confirmed that Black Widow is still being released in theaters on May 7, 2021. There’s nothing much to report on there, but that date is important to keep in mind when tracking Phase 4 of the MCU. Eternals is still set to premiere in theaters on February 12, 2021.
Loki Footage
In a shocking twist of events, Feige brought Loki footage with him. This was the least expected of the series for some reason, and it could be because so much of their filming has been kept under wraps. For good reason, too. There’s still so much left to the imagination after watching the new footage, and that’s the fun part about Marvel Studios.
Loki comes to Disney+ May 2021.
What If…? First Look
We also got a first look at Marvel Studios’ animated series What If…?. A lot of the footage is familiar from past events, but there is some new stuff in there that is so freaking cool. It’s coming to Disney+ Summer 2021.
Shang- Chi and the Legend of the Three Rings Cast
Feige didn’t have any footage to show from the recently wrapped Shang-Chi film, but he did bring some casting confirmations with him, including Awkwafina and Michelle Yeoh. This film is set to premiere on July 9th 2021.
Ms. Marvel Featurette
Ms. Marvel is still at the beginning of production, but Feige didn’t come empty-handed. He brought a touching featurette that highlights Kamala Khan in the comics and moving forward in the MCU. It even has an exclusive look at the casting of Iman Vellani. This series is slated to reach Disney+ late 2021.
Captain Marvel 2 Casting
Captain Marvel 2 will be directed by Nia DaCosta, which is some of the best news ever. The good news doesn’t stop there! Ms. Marvel‘s Iman Vellani and WandaVision‘s Teyonah Parris will return to the MCU on the big screen alongside Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel 2. That means we get to see even more of Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau.
Captain Marvel 2 will fly into theaters on November 11, 2022.
Hawkeye Casting and She-Hulk Casting
Once again, there is nothing new to see about Hawkeye and She-Hulk, but there is some confirmation around casting. Tatiana Maslany will, in fact, play Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk. Tim Roth is returning as the Abomination from The Incredible Hulk. Of course, Mark Ruffalo will appear on the series as the Hulk himself. She-Hulk will be directed by Kat Coiro and Anu Valia.
It probably brought Feige great joy to finally announce — in person — that Hailee Steinfeld will play Kate Bishop on the upcoming Hawkeye. Plus, we got to see an extremely quick glimpse of Hailee as Kate. Feige went on to acknowledge the other casting news originally reported by Variety. Hawkeye will be directed by Rhys Thomas and directing duo Bert and Bertie.
There are no new updates about Hawkeye and She-Hulk‘s premiere date, but Hawkeye was originally slated for Fall 2021.
Five New Series + The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
There are a whole bunch of new series on the way that Feige announced just as casually as the rest of this news. He confirmed that Moon Knight (still without a confirmed lead) and Blade starring Mahershala Ali are still in development.
The name of the Samuel L. Jackson led Disney+ show is Secret Invasion and will co-star Ben Mendelsohn as Talos. Ironheart will star Dominique Thorne as the genius inventor Riri Williams. She is “the creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man.”
Don Cheadle will return as James Rhodes/War Machine in Armor Wars. Feige confirmed this show will be about “Tony Stark’s worst fear coming true: what happens when his tech falls into the wrong hands?”
There’s a fun series of shorts on the way all about everyone’s favorite tree, Groot. Aptly titled I Am Groot, the shorts will star Baby Groot himself along with “several new and unusual characters.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy fans will be pleased to know that we will be catching up with those characters soon enough. James Gunn will direct a holiday special that will come exclusively to Disney+ in 2022.
Thor: Love and Thunder Casting
Christian Bale is joining Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tessa Thompson in the next installment of Thor helmed by Taika Waititi. Bale will play Gorr in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Thor: Love and Thunder has a new premiere date of May 6, 2022.
Ant-Man 3 Title and Casting
Peyton Reed will return to direct Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Duglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer will return. Kathryn joins the film as Cassie Lang — a recast that shocked many. Jonathan Majors joins as Kang the Conquerer.
There is no premiere date for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania at this time.
Fantastic 4 Announcement
There’s not much to report on this announcement other than the fact that it’s a major development. The Fantastic 4 will finally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The highly-anticipated project will be directed by Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home director Jon Watts.
Black Panther 2 Updates
Feige reassured fans that Marvel Studios will not recast Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa as one of many ways to honor the late actor. Feige specifically said, “His [Boseman’s] portrayal of T’Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends any iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel’s past. It’s for that reason we will not recast the character.”
Marvel Studios has every intention to honor Chadwick and his work as Black Panther 2 “will explore the world of Wakanda and the rich characters introduced in the first film.” The film, written and directed by Ryan Coogler, opens in theaters on July 8, 2022.
