Look, I don’t always agree with Twitter. Hell, I don’t like them or the platform most of the time.
I don’t understand this decision and I am on the fence if I agree about this or not. When Donald Trump took over the @POTUS Twitter, he got all the followers that went with it. The Twitter account is currently at 33.2MM, and Twitter has made the decision that Joe Biden will start with 0 followers. The name on the account will be changed to @POTUS45 and will be archived.
But it’s not only the @POTUS account that will return to 0.
The current @WHITEHOUSE account will also change to @WHITEHOUSE45 and be archived, starting the account over at 0.
“The accounts will not automatically retain their existing followers. Instead, Twitter will notify followers of these accounts to provide context that the content will be archived and allow them the choice to follow the Biden administration’s new accounts,” the statement read. “For example, people who follow @WhiteHouse will be notified that the account has been archived as @WhiteHouse45 and given the option to follow the new @WhiteHouse account.”
One wonders why it is that this is happening, being as it didn’t happen to Donald Trump when he took it over from Barack Obama. But reports say that Trump refused to pass on the account, as Obama had to him.
Either way – I will take the accounts off block now that I don’t have to listen to the hatred that Trump spews.
