Netflix’s Sweet Home is the incredible ride we never expected to go on but that we appreciate to the moon and back now that we’ve watched season one. Seriously, Korean dramas are so damn creative, fun, wild, complex, and push the boundaries of storytelling. And Sweet Home is one of those dramas who introduces you to an ordinary world transformed into something else while filling it with a wide variety of characters. Still need some convincing to watch Sweet Home? Here are 5 reasons why you should watch the Netflix drama!
1. Song Kang’s incredible performance.
We didn’t know about Song Kang until Sweet Home but we are now obsessed with the talented actor! And we’re going to be honest, he didn’t sell it to us at first. But as the show went on and we learned more about his character, the more we appreciated the talent that it took to bring Cha Hyun-Su to life. Song Kang made us feel for his character, understand how he got to this point, and made us cry once or twice. Honestly, can’t wait to dive into what this actor has done and will do in the future!
2. The various and complicated characters.
Sweet Home has a character for everybody. They’ve got the brooding gangster, the troubled musician, the honorable man, the bully, the troublemaker, the innocent, and so much more. This makes it easy to find someone to attach yourself too. Might they die? Yes, absolutely. But it doesn’t make loving them, their journey, or what we learn about them along the way, any less important. Also, how they balanced all these storylines without getting bogged down is down to a great writing room. I know it!
3. The reason why there are monsters in the first place.
Without spoiling the how and why, especially to those that haven’t watched the show, the reason for the monsters is…different. As viewers we’re so used to a plague ravaging the world or some sort of virus taking hold of people and turning them into mere shadows of themselves. But what if there was something else? Something more twisted? Honestly, the reason behind the monsters was so creative that we’re surprised we haven’t seen more of it in the first place.
4. Incredible monsters and special effects.
Never have we ever seen such creativity when it comes to the monsters/creatures in a show. Seriously, we love every single one of these monsters. From monsters who can’t see and use their ears to catch their prey, to others that rampage while yelling, “Protein!” we are in awe of the way these monsters were brought to life. It’s like they came right off the pages of Youngchan Hwang and Carnby Kim’s comic of the same title and we’re here for it and more! Btw, did you know you can read the Webtoon for free?
5. Lee Si-young being a BAMF.
Sweet Home‘s Lee Si-young has changed us. We are forever in awe of her performance, dedication, and rock hard abs. Like seriously, we are thirsting hard for this actress. And it isn’t JUST because she looks like a chiseled goddess sent to Earth to make our loins explode. It’s because you know for a fact that she put in the hard work to be this badass. Imagine the gym hours? The diet? The restraint? The training? Respect.
