A Discovery of Witches 2×07 had Matthew acting hella intense while Diana tried to navigate her own affairs and get shit done. Not saying that Matthew wasn’t helping. He was. But his need to “possess her” was a little overbearing and kind of a turn off. Part of me is like, “Control yourself Matthew!” but another is like, “That’s part of the season 2 journey and don’t forget that in season one he had impeccable control.” And all of these things can be true at the same time.
As for Diana, she’s got shit to do and not a lot of time to do it in. She will do what must be done to get the book she needs. She won’t cross the line but she will toe it without any maliciousness. The book they need is within arms reach and it could change creatures of all kind depending on who possesses it. And Diana is determined to be that person, come hell or high water. Good thing that we trust her instincts and how she wants to protect creatures and not destroy them.

This episode also saw Diana challenging Matthew, which we all love. She’s not here to be stepped all over. She’s here to find a book with her husband by her side. And there’s no way they can do what must be done if they don’t trust each other. That’s why Diana challenged him in 2×07 of A Discovery of Witches. He’s her partner and I think he forgets it sometimes to the darker parts of himself that want to protect her from the world. Matthew needs to understand that Diana would wade through kings and queens to protect him.
But the only way they are both set to survive what is happening and what still hasn’t yet to come is by protecting each other. No one does it alone. Not Diana. Not Matthew. And the sooner they (mainly Matthew) realize that, the sooner they can get about their business and go back home to the future. Because sooner than later, they are going to be needed in the future to fix the hot mess that their enemies are brewing in their absence. And what a mess we know it’s going to be.
