Sometimes it’s hard to imagine the celebrities you look up to have more or less the same issues you do. Brie Larson, in particular, despite how open she’s always been about her issues, seems like a larger-than-life figure. She is Captain Marvel, after all. So Brie Larson + anxiety? Nah, right?
During a recent YouTube Q&A celebrating the 2 year anniversary of Captain Marvel, the actress discussed living with anxiety and it’s truly so important to see your heroes be this open about the fact that they struggle too. Just imagine young girls listening to Captain Marvel herself tell them that it’s okay to not always know everything, to feel insecure, to not know what you’re doing.
“Something I know I’ve said before, and I’ll say it again because it’s so important to me, is that if…you are somebody that struggles, perhaps struggles with social anxiety, anxiety, depression, or just is somebody that is shy, quiet, these are all things that I identify with myself,” she said in the Q&A, only to later add “It doesn’t mean it has to be a limitation in any way. You can still accomplish great things and also have those be part of you.”
Again, seems obvious when you read it, but it means so much to hear it from someone like Brie Larson.
