The Irregulars “Chapter Five: Students of the Unhallowed Arts” gave us answers to who in particular “The Irregulars” were and what happened to Alice, Sherlock, and John all those years ago. And yes, our prediction that Sherlock was the dad was about half right. Sure, he wasn’t Bea’s biological father but he was her pops when it should’ve counted. And he’s definitely Jessie’s dad biologically even if he abandoned her.
Which, we don’t think we’ll ever be able to forgive Sherlock for what he did to Bea and Jessie. People lose each other all the time. That doesn’t give you special permission to get rid of the last pieces of the person you loved because you thought it was “best for them.” You don’t put kids in a workhouse because you think that. You put them there because you want them out of sight and out of mind, never having a connection to you.
This makes for a Sherlock Holmes that is the most despicable version of himself. Yes, we loved all the scenes of Sherlock, Alice, and John together in the past. They were The Irregulars who found companionship, friendship, and love at each other’s side. And it kind of made us want a whole show about their adventures way back when and before the tragedy of Alice’s death. But that doesn’t take away from the horrible things Sherlock did or how he’s the worst.

Then there’s John. Previously we talked about how this show was lacking when it comes to LGBTQ representation. It’s like the Netflix gods were listening and decided to give me that in the form of John Watson. We think he loves Sherlock as more than friends. That’s why he was always so jealous of Alice and what she represented in Sherlock’s life. And whatever discoveries come next, we know it’ll be born out of some twisted love for Sherlock.
Talking about love and stuff…did Bea and Leo end up sleeping together? Because that’s what they made it out to be and I don’t hate it. For one, Bea deserves good things in her life. She’s a strong, protective, kind, bold, and brilliant young woman who could’ve turned out twisted because of the things that have happened to her. Instead she is vibrant and chooses her own path in life. That path has led her to Leo.
His royal highness is running from his past as a means of keeping Bea in his present and future. But it breaks our shipper heart to once again admit that this can’t last. He’ll have to see to his duties and we pray to God that they don’t make Bea pregnant after one night of love making as it that’s the punishment for having unprotected and unwed sex. Fuck that noise and that kind of writing. Until that blows up, we’re crossing our fingers that our favs make it out safe.
The Irregulars is available on Netflix.
