We needed tissues to get through this episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star. “One Day” was definitely the saddest episode of the series so far, and we’re still recovering from the loss of Charles. Gina Torres was amazing as Tommy trying to process the sudden death of her husband.
We were really hoping that there would be some miracle and Charles would make it. We quickly learn at the beginning of “One Day” that that wouldn’t be the case, and unfortunately, Charles passes away. Tommy knows he’s gone so she asks the ambulance to not use lights or sirens so her girls won’t be woken up.
Tommy was so strong in this episode. We’re not sure how she got through breakfast with her daughters without breaking down, but she managed and sends them to Grace and Judd’s for the day. She heads to the hospital because she needs answers.
While at the hospital, she befriends George, who desperately wants his son to wake up and won’t let anyone take him off life support. He pulls out a gun and barricades himself in his son’s room. Tommy knows the gun is fake and tries to help. Owen, who is also at the hospital, wants to get Tommy out of the hospital because he doesn’t want her to get injured.

Judd and Grace also worry, and Grace thinks something’s seriously wrong. After she calls 9-1-1 and listens to the heartbreaking call from Tommy, her suspicions are confirmed, and she informs Owen. Owen realizes Tommy wants to help this George get the miracle she didn’t get. And he does get it. His son wakes up from his coma, and while that was wonderful, our hrearts broke even more for Tommy.
As “One Day” ends, we learn Charles had an aneurism. It was quick and there wasn’t anything Tommy or anyone else could do. Tommy goes home to pick up her girls, and we were devastated when her daughter asked about their daddy. This was just so sad. As soon as they leave, Grace breaks down and Judd tries to comfort her.
We’re already in awe of how strong Tommy is and we know she’s going to still give her girls a wonderful life, but they’re going to need their friends in the days and weeks (and years) to come. We know that Grace, Judd, and the rest of the 126 will try their best to help and will rally around them.
Next week is the season finale, and it feels like it’s too soon. So much has already happened this season, and we know the finale is going to be intense. We hope everyone in the 126 makes it out alive because after this episode, we’re not sure we can take any more sadness!
