At the end of last week’s 9-1-1: Lone Star, it looked like Owen was in trouble. “The Big Heat” picks up right where last week left off with Owen facing an arson investigation and the rest of the 126 facing danger. The episode also has a devastating ending.
Billy rescues Owen from the fire, and Owen suspects Billy. Unfortunately for Owen, Billy is on to him and goes to the fire investigator to tell him Owen is the arsonist. The police tear Owen’s place apart looking for evidence to prove Owen set the fires, and obviously he has all of those tools and parts that he bought at the hardware store. He looks guilty.
Owen swears he’s innocent. Even Judd believed that Billy was the arsonist. While we hate that Judd was placed in this position, it was nice to see that Judd stood by Owen. It’s a far cry from the very beginning of Lonestar when Judd resented Owen for taking the captain position at the 126.

“The Big Heat” provides us with a huge twist: it turns out that neither Owen or Billy set the fires! It was the fire investigator! Plot twist! This was an elaborate plan by Gabriel, Billy, and Owen to trick everyone so they could catch the real villain. It’s amazing that they were able to fool everyone especially Judd, T.K., and Carlos. Unfortunately, there are two other fires that no one knows about yet.
After the real arsonist sets himself on fire (this was terrifying), Owen quickly tells the 126 to evacuate. They narrowly escape an explosion which is a huge relief, but Owen can’t help but feel like there’s more. He realizes that T.K. and Carlos are in danger as their apartment goes up in flames.
It was heartbreaking watching Carlos and T.K. try to escape. They realize the window is their only hope in making it out alive, but then Owen shows up and helps them get out. We’re so relieved that T.K. and Carlos survived.

Also, where are they going to live now? Are they all going to stay with Owen? Owen, Mateo, T.K, and Carlos all under the same roof could be interesting. Also, Carlos, make sure to get a fire extinguisher to put on the second floor in your next apartment.
At the end of “The Big Heat” we finally thought everyone was out of danger. But Tommy goes home and finds her husband unresponsive. Please tell us that she’s able to save him! It doesn’t look good, but there’s always hope for a miracle on tv. Tommy and her girls don’t deserve to lose him! We need some happiness on this show.
