We loved this week’s episode of 9-1-1. “Treasure Hunt” was a much-needed lighter episode after the last two weeks. The entire episode was dedicated to finding a five-million-dollar treasure hidden by author Hollis Harcourt. The entire city gets in on the hunt as well as the 118 which led to a very entertaining hour of television.
We knew “Treasure Hunt” would be crazy at the very beginning. The team quickly learns that Hollis Harcourt recently died. To find the treasure he hid, they must follow clues that relate to his books. Throughout the episode the 118 gets a ridiculous number of calls from people who tried to find the treasure and now need help. Someone even tried to dig up a bear statute.
Buck decides he wants to find the treasure and teams up with Taylor. Soon after Eddie joins their team and Eddie and Buck quiz the probie for information about the rescues that day. Chim and Hen figure out that Buck and Eddie are hunting for the treasure so they decide to team up themselves. We soon learn that the entire 9-1-1 call center is keeping track of the treasure. They have a white board and mark off where the treasure isn’t based on their calls. This was hilarious!
There’s a bit of a twist in this treasure hunt: Hollis Harcourt isn’t dead. He informs Athena he needed an ending for his book so he decided to put this whole treasure hunt thing in motion. He says that this treasure hunt confirms everything he ever thought about this town – it’s full of “greedy selfish people.” Hollis begs Athena not to tell everyone he’s alive. Yeah…. Athena isn’t doing that.
It doesn’t take long before the 118 figures out where the treasure is hidden and everyone shows up. This was our favorite part of the episode. Plus, we’re super impressed that Karen wrote an algorithm. They decide to split the money between all of them and Taylor, and Probie since he got to the box first. But when they open the treasure box, it’s empty. The five million dollars is no where to be found.
This episode was just full of twists. It turns out that Hollis’s assistant took the money, and we can’t say we blame him. Hollis doesn’t seem like the nicest guy or best boss. Especially when you consider that he basically just wanted to watch everyone act like morons over this treasure because he couldn’t do his job and create his own ending to his book!
The final twist in “Treasure Hunt” was that Hollis did actually die. He had a heart attack. How’s that for karma? We loved that the 118 followed Athena into Hollis’s house so she could have an alibi. They stick together.
We laughed almost the entire episode, and it was nice to see the team have some fun outside of work. And now we know that Buck is definitely crushing on Taylor.
