When you think about Cruella de Vil, what comes to mind? For me, it’s the black and white jacket and the cigarette in her hand. But if you’ve seen Cruella, you know that the cigarette in her hand is missing.
It’s not that I am missing that, but it is something that you notice with Cruella in the animated franchise.
So why doesn’t she have one in the live action Cruella?
“That is not allowed in 2021,” the actress who plays the iconic character, Emma Stone shared with the New York Times.
“We are not allowed to smoke onscreen in a Disney film,” Emma added. “It was difficult to not have that cigarette holder…I was so excited to have that green plume of smoke in there, but it was not possible. I don’t want to promote smoking, but I’m also not trying to promote skinning puppies.”
Disney actually banned smoking in their movies in 2007, which is something that we can get behind.
