Hey, Afternators! Have we got the best news ever? Looks like we will not be saying goodbye to our beloved Hessa anytime soon. I get it, we still have two more movies; After We Fell and After Ever Happy, as well as the future spinoffs on the way but I’m talking about books. Yes, I said books. New York Times bestselling author Anna Todd has announced that her After series is being turned into graphic novels.
According to Teen Vogue who was given the exclusive first look, After: The Graphic Novel (Volume One) which is scheduled to release March 22, 2022, chronicles the beginning of the emotional, whirlwind romance between college students Tessa and Hardin. Volume Two is slated to arrive in fall 2022, and five additional volumes will follow. Just take a look at the stunning cover below.
Amazing right? One of the greatest things about all of this is that Anna Todd is so involved in this entire process. To get the illustrations of every character we know and love just right, she worked closely with artist Pablo Andrés. She had this to say about the process: “Getting to create the look for each character and choosing eye colors, hair styles, tattoos, clothing, and settings that are true to the novels has been a blast. We were guided by the novels, and from that starting point developed the look and mannerisms for Tessa, Hardin, their family, and their friends. Readers might see some familiar visuals, but Hardin and Tessa in the graphic novel are totally new creations.”
Here’s the synopsis:
Tessa is a good girl with a sweet, reliable boyfriend back home. She’s got direction, ambition, and a mother determined to keep her on course. But she’s barely moved into her freshman dorm when she runs into Hardin, with his tousled brown hair, cocky British accent, and tattoos. Good looking, confident…and rather rude, even a bit cruel. For all his attitude and insults, Tessa should hate Hardin. And she does—until she finds herself alone with him in his room. Something about his dark mood grabs her, and when they kiss it ignites a passion she’s never known before.
He’ll call her beautiful, then insist he isn’t the one for her, making excuses and disappearing, again and again. He’ll turn away, yet every time when she pushes back, he’ll only pull her in deeper. Despite the reckless way Hardin treats her, Tessa is drawn to his vulnerability, determined to unmask the real Hardin beneath all the lies.
A good girl…a bad boy… something undeniable…and everything AFTER.
Anna also confirmed that we the readers, are in for some surprises; “Like any adaptation, we have reworked some of the storyline to fit into the space for a graphic novel. It’s been really fun and so cool to shape the story into a graphic form.”
I’m already excited and I know you all are as well. I love graphic novels and own quite a few that are based on some of my favorite series like Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight and the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K. Hamilton. I truly cannot wait to relive Anna Todd’s world in the form of a graphic novel.
