This week’s 9-1-1: Lone Star was definitely a heart breaker. “In the Unlikely Event of an Emergency” focused on TK dealing with his mother’s death. We also had some excitement with TK and Owen’s flight, and we were able to see some flashbacks of TK and his history with drugs and alcohol. Let’s review.
The Present…

At the beginning of the episode TK, Owen, and Carlos prepare to go to Gwyn’s funeral. It’s obvious that TK isn’t all there but can you blame him? He just lost his mom. The next day he shows up at the firehouse says he’s not going to the funeral. Then he heads straight toward the ambulance where he takes out two vials.
Knowing TK’s history of drug and alcohol use, we were really hoping that TK wouldn’t relapse. Of course, if TK was going to find a reason to use, the death of his mom would be at the top of the list. Luckily, Owen finds TK and the two head off to the airport before TK can do anything else.
TK and Owen miss their original flight but Carlos was able to get the two of them on a later flight. However, TK and Owen probably wish they hadn’t gotten on the flight that Carlos booked for them considering that it caught on fire. This flight was a nightmare. The lady next to Owen was halfway out the window! She would have flown all the way out of the plane if Owen hadn’t rescued her. TK was the hero later after he was able to save her life. We’re really happy she’s going to survive, but she’s probably going to need some therapy after that adventure.
… And The Past
Throughout “In the Unlikely Event of an Emergency” we were treated to flashbacks to when Gwyn took TK to California for rehab. Ronen Rubinstein was just amazing here as was Lisa Edelstein. We could see how sick TK was and how desperate Gwyn was to save him. She really loved him. And TK wouldn’t be the amazing man and first responder he is today without the tough love from Gwyn.
We hate that TK and Owen didn’t make Gwyn’s funeral, but she knew that both of them, especially TK, loved her. And we’re also very grateful that TK didn’t die on the airplane. And, okay, we’re happy Owen’s alive, too.
If the show ever wants to show more flashbacks of TK’s past, we wouldn’t say no. This show does flashbacks so well.
Other Thoughts
- We know Nancy didn’t feel good about talking to Tommy about TK, but she was being a good friend. She was worried about TK and wanted to make sure he didn’t relapse. And after Tommy and her counted all of the medicines, they knew he hadn’t.
- Seeing how relieved everyone was after TK and Owen’s flight landed just shows how close the 126 is. They really are a family.
9-1-1: Lone Star airs Mondays at 8/7c on Fox.
