Perfection. It’s a tricky word, but one that is definitely open to interpretation. What is something that is perfect to you may not be perfect to others. But when we’re asked to come up with something, to define who we are, is anything ever really perfect?
Personally, I don’t think so.
I am a big believer in fate. Fate is what gave Sophie the Uber that brought her to Jesse. And I really, really am hoping that he’ll be the father. I also know that we’re only on episode 8, we barely know him, but hey, I am partial.
And fate in this moment is telling Sophie that she needs to look at what is in front of her, but also who she’s with.
I like Drew, truly. I find him charming. I think that he’s a good guy, but the thing that makes me know that him and Sophie are never meant to be forever? Because she felt like she had to change for Drew.
In any relationship, you should not feel like you have to change who you are. Sure, a person should make you a better version of yourself, but that happens over time. And in this instance, Sophie, from the get go, felt she had to change who she was.
So as charming as Drew can be, he’s red flag city.
The gang is going to a fundraiser at the school – which no one really wants to go to – but they are going for Sophie. They want to support her. Her relationship, her dreams.
They are all going to suffer, and lets face it is there anyone that doesn’t suffer at a school event?
But in comes fate. Fate and circumstance.
In her quest to take the perfect pic, Sophie ends up chopping a tooth. She can’t go to the event like this and the first person that she calls is Jesse. She doesn’t even think to call Drew, she calls Jesse, because she knows that Jesse will understand. He will be there for her.
And he is. He shows up, even going as far to take her to the dentist to make sure that she’s taken care of. They feel the same thoughts as they sit in the office with what seems to be a bunch of starving artists, and sure, they become afraid. But they are in it together.
And when they leave, her tooth looks as good as new. The two of them are talking to each other and they are comforting to each other. Even when the car breaks down and Sophie breaks her tooth – AGAIN – they are getting each other through. They remind each other that they’re good – just the way they are.
But you know who doesn’t think that they are good, just the way that they are? Drew. He has offered Jesse a full time job and he turned it down. And he tells Sophie that photography is her passion, but at a certain point, it’s time to get a career.
Drew, for a teacher, you sure as fuck don’t know how to build people up.
See, in life people, there are always going to be people that tell you that you have pipe dreams. But hey, everyone has pipe dreams – but if someone didn’t follow their dreams we’d all be missing out on a lot. Dreams can be reality and sure, it’s a lot to chance, but you don’t put down peoples dreams. What the fuck is wrong with Drew?
He’s definitely not Mr. Forever. And you know what I don’t even want him to be anything because he’s crushing Sophie’s dreams and you just don’t do that. She’s had enough negativity in her life.
And who is there to pick her up when she is sad over this? Jesse. He’s there to remind her that she’s talented and she shouldn’t give up on her dreams. He’s there to remind her that she’s perfect to him basically and that was enough for our knees to go weak.
Jesse sees Sophie in a way that she doesn’t even see herself. It’s a rare thing that we ever allow anyone in, truly, in this life. But Jesse and Sophie see the beauty of who they are, the way that they are, and the potential in each other.
And so yes, when he kissed her I screamed and called my best friend and woke her up.
We’re just gonna hope that Meredith doesn’t ruin everything for them, because you know that she will.
But Jesse, well he is definitely Sophies perfect shot.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Valentina’s boss is straight up Satan. I would shove that doll… where the sun doesn’t shine.
- Valentina stealing the purse though… not a good idea.
- Valentina deserves better.
- Meredith coming back to talk to Jesse… go away.
- I get that songwriting is a way to let out your feelings, but you coulda done better Meredith. You shoulda talked to Jesse earlier.
- Sid trying to protect his best friend is A+++ behavior.
- Ellen and Sid have a very unique relationship – but ok.
- Charlie is growing on me.
