Peacock is going forward with a darker take on Casper the Friendly Ghost and…no one wants that. According to Deadline, the brand new incarnation will be reminiscent of Riverdale‘s darker interpretation of the Archie comics. And knowing how that CW show is going (they’re doing time travel guys) it’s going to be quite a hard pill to swallow that will turn our friendly ghost into a dark and brooding take. We’re calling it.
Set in high school, because of course it is, it tells the story of Casper and the mystery he finds himself in the small town of Eternal Falls. Buried for over 100 years, it all comes to a head when a new family moves into town. And with it being billed as a live-action, horror/adventure series, you know it’s going to be spooky, broody, romantic, and chock-full of high school drama that will hopefully never crossover with Riverdale.
Peacock’s Casper will be written and executive produced by Kai Yu Wu. She is best known for writing on The Flash and The Ghost Bride. Casper is going to be produced by UCP and DreamWorks Animation. And for most of us, we know Casper either from the comics or from the 1995 movie Casper. It starred Christina Ricci, Bill Pullman, and Malachi Pearson. And for this writer, it was the first crush we had that made us have heart year. We’re talking about you Devon Sawa.
