When The Hills: New Beginnings was cancelled, we understood why. The series, although enjoyable, featured a cast that was known, but everything felt contrived. And while you all know that typically we are against a reboot, because hey, there are a lot of original ideas out there, we were for it.
But rebooting The Hills with an all new cast feels wrong. The show was iconic for its time and gave us some of the best reality stars that MTV had to offer.
But studios are trying to make money, and MTV has given a series order to The Hills: Next Gen (working title), from MTV Entertainment Studios. Next Gen would only make sense to us, if we were talking about children of the original cast.
We know that Los Angeles has changed a lot since the days of the original series, so we are happy that they say that the cast will be more diverse, but it’s still about twenty-somethings in the hills (of Malibu). Give us a show about twenty-somethings in the valley, just trying to make it in Los Angeles and not trying to drive over the hills.
The show is said to, “navigate realities of race, class, identity, addiction, family drama along with the thrills of romance and becoming self-made amidst the exclusive enclave of the hills in Malibu.”
We’re just not sure about it. But more important, what do you think? Are you for a new version of The Hills?
