Motherland: Fort Salem fam, the official trailer for season 3 has just dropped and it’s full of WTF moments that have us reeling, excited, and desperate to watch the final season. And because we can’t contain ourselves or our shipper hearts, we wanted to break down the moments that caught our eyes and that we can’t stop thinking about. So, sit back, enjoy, and join us as theorize what’s to come before the end.
1. The return of General Alder
Lyne Renée is a sight to behold in the official trailer for season 3 of Motherland: Fort Salem. Her General Alder is a complicated character that you love and hate sometimes in equal measure. But at the heart of it, she’s a brilliant witch who will do anything to protect her family. And Tally (Jessica Sutton), Raelle (Taylor Hickson), and Abigail (Ashley Nicole Williams) are her family.
Other scenes in the trailer show the witches encountering a force they’ve never experienced before that looks like a fungus. And it has to be that the Mycelium and Alder have joined in some way, keeping Alder alive to protect witches. Question is, what other witches have the Mycelium kept alive inside of itself?
2. Abigail/Adil & Raelle/Scylla wedding
The marriages of Abigail/Adil (Tony Giroux) and Raelle/Scylla (Amalia Holm) are something straight out of a dream. Literally. There’s no way that the President of the United States would be ok with marrying these two. That doesn’t mean that we don’t love this scene. But who has lured them into this trap? And who wouldn’t fall for this?
Our best bet as to why this wedding is happening is the Camarilla. They would do anything, tear into you, to see what your deepest fantasy is. And what if these two couples just want to be happy and in love? And it’s used against them? We think they will use their love to thrive instead.
3. Tally’s visions & powers
Tally is going to be tested in Motherland: Fort Salem season 3 to push the boundaries of her powers to save her family. And with Nicte (Arlen Aguayo-Stewart) around to tempt her with power and Khalida (Kylee Brown) showing her what true power can do, she’s going to go through a transformation.
We’re worried for Tally and the lengths she’s willing to go to protect her family. And just from the picture below, she’s straining herself to get an advantage on their enemies through visions and a fiery force that looks hard to control. And we think that her friends are going to keep her grounded while Nicte pushes her.
4. Raelle in a trance
From the loss of her mother, twice, to the betrayal and then reunion with her love aka Scylla, Raelle has had it tough. And then there are the events of season 2 where she was tortured in a way no one should be. That kind of thing leaves scars that have to be explored and maybe this is part of it.
We know that the witches in Motherland: Fort Salem, particularly our favorites, are going to encounter old magic. And what if that old magic helps them tap into what happened to Raelle? Or what if it helps them tap into something that hasn’t been touched in ages aka true power? Whatever it is, we’re worried.
5. An army like none we’ve seen before
This image from Motherland: Fort Salem is foreboding. It tells the story of a great war to come. But what we don’t know is if these are witches or just regular old soldiers in the official trailer for season 3. Our bet is that it’s regular soldiers, hoping they can overwhelm the witches with sheer numbers.
But that’s not the only theory we have. If the Mycelium can store memories and people like General Alder, what if there are more witches? What if there’s a way to bring up their numbers to put the fear of the Goddess in them to have the humans respect them and their people? Only time and season 3 will tell.
Motherland: Fort Salem season 3 premieres June 21st on Freeform.
