Motherland: Fort Salem 3×03 “Oh Elayne…” is proof that things can get worse for Tally, Abigail, and Scylla. As for Raelle? She’s trapped in the Mycelium with no way of getting her back. And the Camarilla are one step closer to their masterplan coming to fruition. But what if our favs in Fort Salem are a step ahead? What if they planned for this? Here’s hoping they are because I don’t know how many of these soldiers will survive when this show comes to an end.
What is Tally Going to Do
Week after week, I’ve been worried about what Tally is going to do on Motherland: Fort Salem. She loves her family and becomes this fearless warrior whenever they are in danger. But this season, she’s stepping it up and being more proactive instead of reactive. And her taking that seed…she’s planning something. Something big. Something that will change all of their lives forever. And I can’t help but thinking that it’s going to lead to her death.
It’s not like I want Tally to die, but the writing feels like it’s on the walls. Yes, she has her family. And yes, she loves them. But the show is dropping breadcrumbs of a starting discontent within her. Tally feels lonely (this girl deserves to have a ship!), a bit left out, and out of control. And her looking into the future, that’s her trying to be an active participant that is making positive change for their group. If that means she has to sacrifice herself for this group, she’ll do it.
If Motherland: Fort Salem doesn’t go that route, which I hope they don’t, I hope Tally ends up blowing this wide open. I hope she finds love, happiness, peace, and even more family. Because that first song, it’s been claimed by Tally. She holds it. And that makes her part of something bigger than herself without losing herself. Also, I’d love for Tally to train the next generation of witches and give them the fire and kindness that she holds within herself in equal measure.
Scylla Will Do Anything for Raelle
If I were in Scylla’s shoes…I would do the same thing. Not her past when she was, you know, terrorizing people. We’re not about that but understand that she was misguided and that things are more complicated than that. But what she was doing for Raelle in Motherland: Fort Salem 3×03 is what we would do. We would especially do it if our girlfriend was sucked into the ground by a huge fungus thing connected to all witches. That’s what you do for the ones you love.
At the same time, I understand why Nicte stopped her. In many ways, Nicte sees herself in Scylla. Plus she doesn’t want to get caught and taken back to Washington to stand trial. But back to seeing herself in Scylla. This young witch is what Nicte was before, or that’s what we think. And maybe Nicte doesn’t want her to falter and snuff out that powerful light inside of her. It’s the same thing Nicte sees in Tally and in her own twisted way, she’s trying to help.
But enough about Nicte and back to Scylla.
Scylla is willing to do anything for Raelle. But I think she’s gotten to the point where she knows she can’t do this alone. And Tally and Abigail won’t let her do it alone, that hug at the end proving that they’re in this together. The past is the past and they are living in the present, trying to stay one step ahead of the people that are trying to destroy them and their way of living. And even though we missed Raelle this episode, we’re glad at the time we spent with Scylla and how Motherland: Fort Salem explored what she’s going through.
IS THE PRESIDENT REALLY DEAD?!
Look, I’m concerned. On many fronts. President Wade being dead means so many things. It’s absolutely the opening for the Vice President to destroy witches and use his position for evil. It’s also closing an avenue for the witches in Fort Salem to gain an upper hand against the Camarilla. But also, it’s the end of a formidable woman by a bunch of pasty antagonists who want to make the witches out to be the Boogie Man of the 21st century. And I’m not here for it.
I’m also not here for what the President’s death means for the rest of the characters, particularly Raelle/Scylla and Abigail/Adil. Remember in the Motherland: Fort Salem season 3 trailer where we saw a wedding scene with these two couples? Well, President Wade was there. So does that actually happen? Or is it a dream that Raelle experiences in the Mycelium? Either way, the chances of a wedding where our favs are happy have sharply shot down.
On the other hand…maybe this was the plan.
Captain Anacostia is a formidable foe. And maybe they knew that this would happen. Maybe the witches prepared for this and it’s all part of the master plan to take the Camarilla down and expose the Vice President and his basic buddies for the zealots they are. Here’s hoping that this is what’s actually happened and we’re in the hardest part of the story, where everything feels hopeless. Because I can’t think of a world where this show ends and our favs aren’t together, happy, and alive.
