Showtime’s upcoming drama series American Gigolo just got a trailer, and you might need a cold shower after watching it.
Jon Bernthal stars as Julian Kaye, a man who learned young that he could be “this other guy.” One who grows up to be a successful escort. That is, until he gets framed for murder and sent to prison for 15 years. When he’s exonerated, he wants to go back to work. But he has to navigate dealing with his old flame, played by Gretchen Mol, his mother, and the people who set him up.
If that sounds familiar, it should. It’s based on the well-known 1980 film of the same name starring Richard Gere. Fans of Bernthal from other projects like The Punisher are probably eager to watch him venture further into leading man territory. As well as to see all the shirtless scenes that come along with that. And considering his role here, would we expect or want anything different?
Nope.
And it’s clear that the people who framed Julian are still a threat. His life is certainly not automatically easy now that he’s free.
Hollywood super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the 1980 film, is back to executive produce this series. The cast is rounded out by Rosie O’Donnell as Detective Sunday and Wayne Brady as Julian’s best friend and mentor Lorenzo. (Am I the only one who hopes he busts out a song or two at some point during this show?) It’s a surprising and impressive team. The trailer certainly indicates that all the pieces are in place for a sexy and dangerous ride. Get ready for things to get hot.
