On this site we’re Bravoholics and we are so proud of that. Bravo has its ups and downs. A lot of it is pure entertainment and we get that. We are also fully aware of the fact that a lot of reality is staged and it really isn’t reality.
Yet, we’re still addicted and love the channel. We have to admit that there are somethings that are outdated and Bravo needs to do a check on why they keep those shows around. But while they are doing that, (lets all thank them for working on fixing RHONY cause that was a dumpster fire), they are introducing new shows that makes us happy.
While we’re loving shows such as Summer House and Winter House, we’ve been awaiting shows that feel like we’re watching people live their real lives. And we feel like we’ve found that in Real Girlfriends in Paris.
In Paris, six bold 20-something American women experience their wildest adventure yet. While in the City of Lights, they find each other, encounter a romantic rendezvous or two and embrace all the spontaneity that comes with living in an exciting new city. Always looking for a good time, the women find themselves in an extraordinarily rich moment in their lives where the possibilities for true love, unrelenting passion and forging lifelong friendships are endless.
Sounds perfect, right? Well it’s definitely a show that we’re loving. Once you get past the first episode (though it does have its good parts) you will fall into the world of Emily Gorelik, Anya Firestone, Adja Toure, Victoria Zito, Margaux Lignel, and Kacey Margo. You’ll start to root for them like they are your friends. You’ll become invested in their lives. You’ll love them and you’ll become angry at them.
You’ll look forward to the visits from them every week. And that’s the sign of a good television show, becoming invested in the cast or characters, wishing and hoping for good things to happen for them, and trying to figure out what happens next.
It’s always harder to make assumptions or trying to figure out what happens next when you’re dealing with real people and their real lives. There’s also that whole thing about how shows are edited.
We sat down and spoke with 5/6th’s of the cast and I have to admit that my opinions of them changed by speaking to them. The first two that I spoke to – Emily Gorelik and Anya Firestone.
And this is where we go back to the whole editing thing. My first impressions of the two, due to watching the show, was that both were rich, self centered, and were here for the fame.
Now, as I say that, I will say that the notoriety of being on any television show will bring some sort of social media fame. While I am sure that followers increased and the lives of the girls on Real Girlfriends in Paris have changed some, I don’t think that fame is the main reason for these two to be on the show anymore.
After speaking to them, I believe that they wanted to do the show for many reasons, but mostly, because they wanted to show the world what Paris means to them. They wanted to show people that you can build a life where you are meant to be.
And for them… the meant to be is Paris.
