Obviously, Chesapeake Shores heard my complaints last week about the timeline because we got a 6 month jump and boy did we speed up. This episode was so wholesome as we saw how all the new and established relationships have developed.
Our prayers have finally been answered because we are getting more Kevin and Sarah moments. The cuteness surrounding Sarah’s latest scan and Kevin accidentally getting a sneak peak at the gender of the third O’Brien grandchild, was almost too much to handle. The family bond between Kevin and his sisters and them just knowing his secrets reminds viewers so much of what they’re going to miss about the O’Brien family.
But please can we all agree that Bree is the secret comedian in the family because her yelling surprise when Kevin says he accidentally saw the sex of his baby is hilarious. We also can’t forget the situation with her and Luke surrounding their joint birthdays because Bree is chaotic and it’s perfect.
Bree not wanting her birthday to be celebrated is such a Bree move and evidences her chaotic energy that just works so well on the show. But what I love is how the show allowed this energy to be matched in this episode through both Kevin and Luke. Bree roping Kevin into her chaotic plans to not have Luke get her a gift but also expecting something is genius and allows us to just imagine what kind of trouble they got into when they were kids. Yeah, it’s all confusing but that’s also 100% Bree. The cake moment between Luke and Bree was also another gem in the episode as it proved Luke and Bree are meant to be together as they both understand each other. It was also the highlight of the episode for me even though Abby and Evan said I love you.
I cannot be the only one that thinks the situation of David start is super weird. So, we have this six month time jump but with this jump we see David’s dad only just getting extradited from the Maldives to come back to the US. How does that work, when in the previous episode that was six months ago, the FBI were able to track him through David’s phone call with him? They knew exactly where he was and he expressed how he wanted to be found so why did it take six whole months? The time it took just doesn’t add up.
I think what’s really beautiful about the whole fraud situation is that it’s allowing David to work out the issues with his father and it’s really beautiful because it’s kind of reminiscent of what the O’Briens had to do throughout the six seasons of this show – repair their relationships and conflicts with their parents. With a show like Chesapeake Shores, you kind of know everything is going to end up ok in the end but it’s the way the show works on getting the characters to that ok point that makes the show so great. We get to see that David’s dad really loved him and focused on the little things David did even when he was little. The only question that remains from it all is who framed David’s dad?
Abby and Evan’s relationship has progressed really quickly over the season but hasn’t been the main focus like I expected. But the direction it’s been going in and the way the show is making us invest in Abby and Evan, it kind of suggests that Trace (Jesse Metcalfe) isn’t coming back. And I think that’s for the better of Chesapeake Shores because if this season has shown one thing it’s that Chesapeake Shores can survive without Jesse Metcalfe.
The ending moment of the episode was probably the most wholesome moment of the episode as it showed the progression of mick and Megan perfectly. They finally are listening to each other and that is such a sweet moment to part on.
