Every parent knows the horror that comes with the sudden discovery that you’ve accidentally left one of your baby’s prized possession behind. Babies take no prisoners, and if they depend upon a certain binky, blanket, motion, temperature, or phase of the moon to get to sleep, you darn well better give it to them.
This is what makes the Kia Tessuride X-Pro Super Bowl commercial so relatable. In the ad, a family is traveling away from home when they realized that Dad left their baby’s favorite binky behind. And so begins a quest of epic proportions, with Dad driving off-road, through construction sites, and across a football field to bring the beloved binky back. Along the way, his failure to remember the treasured binky is first derided on social media, but his determination to reacquire the prized item quickly gets the world on his side. His exploits are even reported on the news, with people cheering as he lifts the re-found binky above his head like it’s Excalibur.
Of course, the baby immediately rejects his peace offering. How dare Dad bring back the green binky? They only accept the blue one.
Most. Relatable. Ad. On. Television.
It really is a cute ad, but it makes one wonder if it would play the same way if it featured Mom and not Dad. Dad not immediately remembering – or recognizing – the prized binky is relatable and hilarious. Would the story really get past the shaming if it was Mom in his shoes?
At any rate, the Kia Telluride X-Pro binky commercial is adorable and relatable, and it wins our vote for favorite Super Bowl ad for 2023.
