SpongeBob Squarepants is headed to Super Bowl LVIII. According to reports, Nickelodeon is going to have its own broadcast for the Super Bowl that centers around introducing children to this event. And as part of that they’re going to show SpongeBob SquarePants performance with his friends at the Bubble Bowl.
For those who need a refresher on what happens during the episode titled “Band Geeks,” here’s what you need to know. Squidward needs to perform in front of a live audience after being challenged by his nemesis Squilliam. He brings together his friends to take on this challenge and surprisingly it doesn’t go well and he storms off. SpongeBob comes in at the last moment with an inspirational speech and they practice all night.
When the moment finally comes for SpongeBob and his friends to perform in front of said live audience, they absolutely kill it. Dressed in red band outfits, they end up performing this song called “Sweet Victory” and it’s so good that Squilliam faints and needs to be taken to Bikini Bottom hospital. And it marks one of the most iconic SpongeBob SquarePants moments that still gets referenced to this day even though the episode aired 23 years ago.
Now it’s heading to Super Bowl LVIII for a kid-friendly broadcast on Nickelodeon. But it might look a little different as the performance of “Sweet Victory” will be done in 3D animation. And even though someone like me personally doesn’t care one bit for the Super Bowl, the 49ers, or the Kansas City Chiefs, I will be seated when it airs on February 11th at 6:30 p.m. ET. It was an iconic moment for SpongeBob SquarePants viewers when they were kids and it continues to be a moment that will never be forgotten. So, Usher might be performing at the halftime show. But personally, “Sweet Victory” is the moment to watch and the biggest moment in Super Bowl history. Sorry, not sorry.
