The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is starting to roll out cast announcements as season 2 gets underway. This time around we have beloved casting from A Discovery of Witches, Game of Thrones, and even Our Flag Means Death alumni. All three will be playing recurring roles for the upcoming season, which is currently in production in the UK.
Tanya Moodie, known for her work in A Discovery of Witches, is joining the cast. She played Agatha Wilson in 13 episodes of the hit series. And she is known for working on Absentia, The Man Who Fell from Earth, and Motherland. Neil Gaiman fans will definitely recognize her as well from the miniseries adaptation of Neverwhere as Hunter. And we sincerely hope she gets time in The Rings of Power to kick ass and maybe make friends with Galadriel or Disa. Because this show definitely needs more female friendships.
Joining alongside her is Rory Kinnear from Our Flag Means Death. Kinnear is an award-winning actor who played Admiral Chauncey Badminton and Captain Nigel Badminton in season 1. And he absolutely scared the living hell out of fans in the A24 film Men. With his ability to jump from comedy to horror, Kinnear can do absolutely anything. But personally, I hope he gets time to use his signature stare. That look of his is scary, no matter what genre of acting it’s in.
And finally, there’s Ciarán Hinds from Game of Thrones. He played Mance Rayder in the series. But most recently he’s taken on roles in horror with The Terror, comedy with The Dry, and crime dramas with Kin. Most surprisingly, he’s also the voice of the Troll King in Frozen and Frozen II. Personally, I’d love to see Hinds do more comedy, especially on a stage like that of The Rings of Power. And with Halbrand being the drama…they’re going to need all the humor they can get.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 is available on Prime Video.
Is the rest of the cast returning? Loved Alex Tarrant and would love to see him again.
