Marvel TV series like Loki, The Falcon, and The Winter Soldier are some of the best television series to come to Disney+. So you can imagine how excited we were when we got the first look at the spy drama during Disney’s 2022 Expo. Secret Invasion is inspired by a comic book of the same name and will see Nick Fury do everything he can to save the planet from an alien invasion.
Here’s everything we know about Marvel’s latest project, from the release date and cast to all the twists and turns to look out for.
When Is Secret Invasion’s Release Date?
According to the latest trailer from Disney+, Marvel’s Secret Invasion begins airing on the site on 21 June 2023. It has six episodes which will be dropping every week.
Who’s in the Cast?

Samuel L. Jackson returns to his role as Fury, who is often a supporting character to the other heroes but is the main protagonist in this series. He will be joined by Ben Mendelsohn, who is reprising his role as Skrull leader, Talos. Cobie Smulders will also return to her role as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill.
Another famous actor that we’re excited will be making their MCU debut is Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke. Clarke will be playing Talos’ daughter G’iah who we last saw when she and her mother reunited with him in a spaceship at the end of Captain Marvel.
During a VanityFair interview, Clarke said of her character, “She’s a refugee kid who’s had Talos for a dad, you know what I mean? Maybe the fact that we didn’t know he had a kid up until this point tells you everything you need to know about their relationship.”

Martin Freeman will reprise his role as former FBI Agent Everett K. Ross. This will be Martin’s second MCU project this year after he appeared in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Don Cheedle’s James Rhodes/ War Machine while Olivia Colman will make her MCU debut as Special Agent Sonya Falseworth. Peaky Blinders’ star Kingsley Ben-Adir will be Secret Invasion’s main villain, rebel leader Garik.
Apart from the actors mentioned, Killian Scott will play Fiz, while Carmen Ejogo and Christopher McDonald join the cast in unnamed roles.
What Is Secret Invasion About?

Marvel’s Secret Invasion sees Jackson’s Fury return to Earth after years of living “off-world” From what we can tell of the latest trailer, Agent Hill has been trying to get a hold of Fury, but he has been ignoring her until she breaks the news that the Skrulls are carrying out a secret invasion on Earth.
Fury has a long relationship with the Skrulls, having fought alongside their leader, Talos, during 2019’s Captain Marvel, set in 1995. It’s safe to say Fury had known about the green-skinned species for decades before they decided to turn on him. After Talos helped Fury and Captain Marvel, he promised to find the Skrulls a home of their own.
However, as we discover in Secret Invasion, Fury fails to fulfill his promise leaving the Skrulls species to live as refugees on Earth. But since Thanos ‘snap’ that left Iron Man and Black Widow dead, it’s been hard for Fury to get back to feeling like his old self. He was also gone for five years, so it is difficult for him to accept that Thanos won.

According to Disney+, while Fury was in space, a faction of the Skrulls rose up and placed themselves in positions of power to take over the planet. Under Garik’s leadership, the Skrulls impersonated government officials, influential people, and some Avengers. In the second Secret Invasion trailer, Fury says, “This war is one I have to fight alone.” without the Avengers. They might all be Skrulls in disguise.
Secret Invasion Official Trailer
We see Fury enlisting the help of his trusted allies, from Agent Hill to Talos’ daughter G’iah to help him save Earth from the Skrull invasion. But in a world where anyone can be a Skrull, are his friends really his allies?
What Can We Expect?
There’s a lot we are looking forward to when Secret Invasion begins streaming in June. One of them is finally meeting Fury’s wife, Priscilla Fury. Actress Charlayne Woodard will play her in this series and give us a glimpse of Fury as a husband.

Another major thing fans can expect not to see is Fury wearing his famous eye patch. Jackson told VanityFair, “He just doesn’t wear the patch. The patch is part of who the strong Fury was. It’s part of his vulnerability now. You can look at it and see he’s not this perfectly indestructible person. He doesn’t feel like that guy.” And you can see some of that from the latest Secret Invasion trailer.
Fury’s dress code is another thing that will be different the next time we see him. No more boots and ready for battle; instead, he is going for a more casual look. “There’s nobody here who’s glossy and ready for action in a spandex one-piece.” Smulders also gets a new style adding, “I mean, my wardrobe alone has changed so much since the original film. I was in platform knee-high boots and a skintight leotard in the Avengers movie. And I’m in straight-up jeans and a tee in this one.”
How Does This Tie In The MCU Phase 5?
Secret Invasion is the second installment to the 5th phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantimania kicked things off. The Disney+ series will be a sequel to Spiderman: Far From Home, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and a prequel to The Marvels. We first learned of Fury’s relocation to space during a Far From Home post-credits scene that showed Talos and his wife, Soren impersonating Fury and Agent Hill.
After Fury hangs up on Talos, who was updating him on Parker, the camera shows him in what looks like a space station filled with Skrulls personnel as he shouts, “Has anyone seen my shoes!”. The events of Marvel’s Secret Invasion will likely continue from here and significantly affect the wider MCU.
