Rumor has it that Marvel has been looking for the perfect cast for their Fantastic Four reboot for a while now. When insiders started mentioning Adam Driver and Margot Robbie in relation to the lead roles of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic and Sue Storm/Invisible Woman came out, I was excited! I’ll be honest: I was looking forward to it only because I’d finally get to see Driver play a superhero.
Sadly that excitement was shortlived because more rumors began swirling that Driver and Robbie were no longer in talks to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. All this is 100% unconfirmed, but let’s be honest … it would have been the best casting for a superhero couple.
Did Adam Driver and Margot Robbie Almost Join the MCU?

Being a massive fan of the 2005 and 2007 Fantastic Four films, I’ve been invested in any speculation regarding the possible cast. Since this reboot is set to introduce phase 6 of the MCU, I knew Marvel would go all out regarding casting. It is great to be able to cast A-list celebrities because if the Reboot is bad then the famous faces will still pull in the crowds at the cinema. Look what happened when Marvel cast Angelina Jolie for The Eternals, the movie was all over the place, but honestly, everyone was just happy to see Jolie as Thena.
When reports said the Fantastic Four reboot had WandaVision’s director Matt Shakman at the helm, my excitement began building. Because I still think WandaVision was so good it deserved a second season. Also, Avatar: The Way Of Water writer Josh Friedman is writing the script for Marvel and after watching the film, I can say this reboot’s origin story is in good hands. So with all these reports coming out, all anyone has been talking about is the casting, with Driver rumored to be Marvel’s top choice for the lead. I could already see Driver in the blue suit.
And after his Kylo Ren portrayal, I was all for this move because Driver would make anyone invested in Richards as a character. His intense looks are all we need, honestly. Then more rumors emerged that Margot Robbie was also in talks to play Sue Storm but the Barbie star reportedly got turned down. How could Marvel let Robbie go?? Considering how big the Barbie film is projected, she would have been a great addition to the cast.
Instead, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1’s Vanessa Kirby is now rumored to be the studio’s top choice. She’s a great actress, so I think her portrayal of Sue Storm would be excellent if she’s chosen, don’t get me wrong. But Margot Robbie. Margot Robbie!
Adam Driver’s Demands Might Have Ruined His Chances To Be In The Fantastic Four Reboot
Earlier this year, insider Jeff Sneider shared unconfirmed reports that Driver was in the lead to play Reed Richards during an episode of the Hot Mic podcast. But rumors later emerged that he might have opted out of the role after Robbie was turned down.

During a Hot Mic episode, Sneider dished, “When I asked someone about Fantastic Four, they said…like I said it comes down to money, so I think Adam Driver may have priced himself out. That may have been the situation. He may have just started asking for too much money. ” All this is not confirmed but I’m not surprised Driver might have asked for a lot of money because this is Marvel. First, they can afford it, and second, joining the MCU doesn’t always go well for every actor, so they should be paid well.
Elizabeth Olsen has been open about how her Marvel contract prevented her from doing other more fulfilling projects. Sneider and his Hot Mic co-host also hinted that Driver didn’t want to be part of the film if Robbie wouldn’t play Sue Storm. I’m sad the two might not be joining the MCU, even though they would have been perfect for these roles. Robbie and Driver would look great as a couple and a team. Plus, with everything going on with Marvel stars right now, Driver and Robbie, in my opinion, would have been a considerable boost for it.
The Fantastic Four Reboot is set for release in early 2025, but we might have to prepare for a later date if Marvel doesn’t get people to play the lead roles.
