Our Flag Means Death season 2, something that many #BlackBonnet shippers have been not so patiently waiting for, is closer than expected thanks to a new trailer. And even though it’s a minute long, I have been absolutely devouring every second of it. Over and over I watched how Stede reminisced about his time with Edward aka Blackbeard while the latter let the pain of their separation tear him apart. And I couldn’t help noticing small moments as to what’s to come for season 2. Because I don’t think that Stede and Blackbeard (going to call him that while he’s in dark mode) will be kept apart for long.
Let’s break down the clues from the Our Flag Means Death season 2 teaser trailer!
1. The throwback to the red pocket square
No matter what Blackbeard is going through, he’s still thinking about Stede and how he opened himself up to the man. He’s thinking about the way they fell in love, the things that he still carries from Stede, and how it affects him. That’s not a man who is over Stede. That’s a man in mourning meaning there’s still a chance when they reunite.
2. Blackbeard has been counting the days since Stede…
Continuing on in the ‘Blackbeard isn’t over Stede’ train, I believe in my shippers heard that he’s keeping count of the days since separating from Stede. And every day hurts more and more, Blackbeard spiraling as he feels like he’s slipping back into the man he was before. Basically, more evidence that season 2 is about to be a fanfic with tags such as: Hurt/No Comfort, Angst, Pining.
3. The reunion might be closer than expected
At the beginning of the season 2 teaser we get Blackbeard slicing someone up. And I didn’t think much of it until I reached the end and saw Stede fighting someone in a similar uniform and on similar soil. Maybe I’m reaching, but what if their reunion happens sooner? What if Stede finds Blackbeard and the latter has an unexpected reaction? Angst is coming, people!
4. Blackbeard changed the cake toppers to him and Stede
My queer little heart can’t handle the fact that Blackbeard stopped a wedding, destroyed it, and took the cake toppers to moon over. Then he went a step ahead and painted the woman to look like him. Again, that man is not over Stede and I’m hoping fanfic writers take this material and give us wedding fics where Edward gets the happy ending with a cake that he deserves!
5. Stede and Izzy reunite and possibly work together
Izzy Hands hatessss Stede. But even he knows that Stede hurt Blackbeard. And I have a feeling that these two are going to team up to reunite Stede and Blackbeard. Because the dreaded pirate we saw in the teaser trailer is on a rampage. That’s got to be bad for business. Or Izzy just cares for his captain? And wants the best for him. That just so happens to be Stede.
6. They hit some rough seas…
Firstly, VICOOOOOOOOOO ORTIZ! We have missed Jim so much and have been worried for them ever since the Our Flag Means Death season 1 finale. And from the looks of this quick scene, they are in trouble. They are also unapologetically out of disguise and looking good. And is that short hair I see?! Face card approved.
7. Drag night for the crew…
Back in season 1 of Our Flag Means Death, Wee John admitted that he made dresses with his mom. And whatever is going on in season 2, he’s embracing that side of himself in what looks like full drag. The Stede lookalike behind him could mean that Blackbeard will try to get over Stede by replacing him. But no one can replace Stede Bonnet.
