Julia Stiles got a little emotional recreating the iconic scene from 10 Things I Hate About You. The moment happened during the Mash-Up Americans Book Festival in New York City on Wednesday, December 6th. And thanks to the festival’s venue The Greene Space posting the video on their Instagram, we get to witness a scene known to many rom-com fans since the movie debuted in 1999.
In the movie, Stiles character Kat reads a poem in front of her class. And what should’ve been a simple sharing with the class quickly turns charged when the poem read speaks to her feelings for the love interest Patrick, played by the late Heath Ledger. When asked about the moment by People, Stiles said, “I’m glad that people enjoyed it and I’m glad that they’re still talking about it.” She continued with, “I don’t take that for granted, but I look away pretty quickly.”
The poem goes as:
I hate the way you talk to me
And the way you cut your hair
I hate the way you drive my car
I hate it when you stare
I hate your big dumb combat boots
And the way you read my mind
I hate you so much, that it makes me sick
And even makes me rhyme
I hate the way you’re always right
I hate it when you lie
I hate it when you make me laugh
Even worse when you make me cry
I hate it when you not around
And the fact that you didn’t call
But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you
Not even close
Not even a little bit
Not even at all
