Elisabeth Moss isn’t letting shows like The Handmaid’s Tale be the only thing that she’s known for. And that’s become abundantly clear in the official trailer for her upcoming FX mini-series The Veil. In the mini-series she plays Imogen Salter, a spy who is brought on for “very high level situations.” And for the mini-series, she’s tasked with getting a secret from a woman before “thousands of lives are lost.” This leads the two women from Istanbul to Paris and London as they play a “deadly game of truth and lies.”
In a time where I’ve honestly not been excited for a series in a while, The Veil intrigues me. Moss doesn’t seem like the kind of woman who would be an international spy. Or at least, that’s what Hollywood has taught me. And maybe that’s exactly why she’s perfect for this role. Moss has always been fantastic at playing a character with anger simmering below the surface. And if you combine that with her kicking a**, you’ve got an intriguing character that viewers like me will tune in for.
Joining Moss in The Veil is Yumna Marwan. She plays Adilah El Idrissi, the woman that Salter has to get answers out of. And just like Salter, she’s unassuming at first. But it becomes very clear in the trailer that she’s not going down without a fight because she’s got a daughter waiting for her. Marwan is known for the Sky Original series Little Birds and the series Hell’s Gate.
As if that wasn’t enough to get you to watch The Veil, there’s the production side of it all. Steven Knight serves as writer for the series. His credits include Peaky Blinders and See. Daina Reid will direct some of the episodes. They are known for working with Moss before in Shining Girls and The Handmaid’s Tale. And Damon Thomas is joining along when it comes to directing. Now their credits are intriguing because they directed 9 episodes of the beloved Killing Eve. That was a twisted spy thriller that we still mourn to this day. And call me delulu…but that was queer so what’s to say that The Veil won’t be as well??? A girl can hope.
