On this week’s 9-1-1, we finally saw the worst vacation ever come to an end. 9-1-1 7×03 “Capsized” was full of action, suspense, emotion, and yes, a little bit of humor thrown in. Because we would expect nothing less from these writers. Let’s review.
Escaping
At the end of last week’s episode, the ship capsized due to the hurricane and a horrific wave crashing over the ship. Before escaping, Bobby and Athena’s priority is rescuing Norman. Remember he was shot earlier due to the pirates and his wife having an affair? Yeah, not the best vacation for Norman. When he wakes up, he wants to know why everyone is on the ceiling. Very valid question, Norman. Bobby was amazing as he hung in the air with only rope keeping him from falling to his death. He was able to get Norman to safety, and then they could plan their escape plan.
Their only way out is to go up. However, their plan encountered a few problems. First, poor Wes didn’t make it. And then they discover Cory’s mom who was trying to rescue Cory and got herself injured and stuck on the ship. After temporarily saving her life, Bobby leaves to try to find Cory while sending the rest of the group off to continue to try to find a way out.
When all hope seems lost, they hear a helicopter. Which, of course, we know is Hen and the rest of the 118. This leads up to how they got there…
Who Cares!
Hen takes it upon herself to get a helicopter in “Capsized” so she can rescue Bobby and Athena. But what she didn’t expect was to see Chim, Buck, and Eddie already in the helicopter waiting for her. This is what we love about this show. Everyone sticks together.
The ride into the hurricane was hilarious. After bantering back and forth, Hen and Chim agree that they’re good, and the guys would follow Hen anywhere. They don’t care if they get fired because they have to save Bobby and Athena. That’s when they decided their motto: “Who Cares!” Maybe not the best motto. But their hearts are in the right place.
But while they were being optimistic, Tommy reminded them of how dire their situation was. “I don’t think anyone should worry about getting fired right now.” “Because our cause is righteous?” “Because we’re flying into a hurricane. We’re probably going to die anyway.” That’s helpful.
After they are instructed to turn around, they see the distress signal that the ship put out. They send out mayday signals for additional help. And they’re also able to rescue Bobby and Cory. When Bobby opened the door and Eddie and Buck were standing there, that was the best scene. And everyone, especially the viewers, could breathe a sigh of relief. It was finally over.
Reuniting
Bobby and Athena’s reunion was beautiful. Okay, seeing them run towards each other with the music in the background and everyone watching may have been cheesy, but we’re fine with it. Especially after everything these three episodes have put us through.
Bobby and Hen’s reunion was great, too. Bobby calling Hen “Captain” made us feel all warm and fuzzy. And Bobby was right: if Hen hadn’t done anything, then Bobby, Athena, Norman, Lola, etc. wouldn’t have survived.
We couldn’t have written a better ending to “Capsized” if we tried. Having Bobby and Athena laugh about her toothbrush being at the bottom of the ocean was great. We see more laughter and happy times in their future. And maybe fewer vacations.
Other Thoughts:
- Norman seriously cracked us up when he was talking to Lola about being brave. Lola could have given herself a heart attack by sleeping with a younger man. Leave it to Norman to bring up the important stuff when their lives are hanging in the balance.
- “How about this? I won’t be an idiot and you won’t be a selfish harlot. Oh too late!” Oh, Norman. We kind of hope we see him again in the future just to check-in.
- We liked that Maddie and Hen were able to talk at the end. They both did what they thought was right this week, and there are no hard feelings between the two.
- “Guys, stop agreeing with each other like you’re fighting. It’s weird.” We agree, Eddie, but it was funny.
- Eddie’s laugh when he sees the distress signal is one of the best things ever.
- “Your husband’s incredible.” “He sure the hell is.”
Agree? Disagree? What did you think of “Capsized”?
