Sometimes, being an unrepentant fangirl pays off, and seeing just a tiny glimpse of Stana Katic in FOX’s Murder in a Small Town preview is most definitely one of those times. Now, before you get your hopes up too much: No, this isn’t another Beckett situation — not that anything really ever could be. She’s technically “only” a special guest star and not The Star. But with that being said, who even cares? Because let’s be real: Katic has a habit of stealing the show no matter how big or small her part is. (Seriously, go watch the two episodes of ER she was in. Or, for a totally different tone, The Spirit.) And we, as fangirls, are going to show up for her regardless of if she’s only there for one second, one episode, or one eternity.
So, aside from the obvious — it’s her — what makes us excited about this latest role? Well, let’s get the part that’s purely for fangirling purposes out of the way: Her hair. We are, as usual, very into her hair. Just…look at it. Bask in the glory. (And if you don’t know about Stana Katic and hair, then you either didn’t watch Castle or just weren’t as dedicated to Kate Beckett as we were. And um. If you weren’t then like…how?)
We are very happy to report that, after watching her in Murder in a Small Town, we’ll have a shiny, new reason to obsess over Katic’s locks. Because her character, Zoe Strachan, is a redhead. And unsurprisingly, it works for her. But don’t take our word for it. Because we weren’t the only ones to immediately clock the new color. That’s the power of Satan Stana, hard at work…being the queen of hairporn.
But we’re not only here for the hair, believe it or not. Nope! She is, as ever, just so…good. Seriously, talk about pulling focus and getting people interested in a show in just a few seconds.

Like, we have no idea what’s going on in this clip, but all we know is we’re obsessed with that tone of voice and the specific enunciation on the word “cryptic.” (Is it sacrilege to say it’s giving “you have no idea” but, like, sinister? Apologies to the Caskett gods if so.) And, while we’re at it…watch her eyes immediately she finishes her line. Please tell us we’re not the only ones who caught that. Because we’re thinking something’s up, and we’ll most definitely be seated to find out exactly what. While we’re at it, “you’re very good at that,” may be a thing Zoe’s saying to Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland) in the scene, but (full offense) it’s a thing Katic should be saying to herself whenever she looks in the mirror in real life.
And yes, the show actually looks interesting even before our girl shows up. Not to mention, that cast list is no joke. So, we’ll be keeping an eye on this one show for sure.
Murder in a Small Town is coming to FOX this fall.
