This week’s 9-1-1: Lone Star focused on relationships. Based on the promos FOX showed for “Thunderstruck,” we knew TK and Carlos were going through a bit of a rough patch, but it’s nothing that we think can’t be fixed. The episode also focused on Owen and his new horse, and an investigation into a drug trafficking case. We found both of these stories interesting, if not a little odd. We review.
Getting a Second Chance
One of the biggest parts of “Thunderstruck” was Owen trying to save Thunder after his owner died. This was not an easy task as Thunder had a long list of things he was scared of. We wish we knew Thunder’s back story. Why was he afraid of glasses and baseball caps? There has to be a reason. Anyway, Owen thinks Thunder can be fixed, but after getting turned down by multiple people, Judd makes the point that Thunder is in pain, and maybe Owen should consider putting him out of his misery.
Owen refuses and points out that you shouldn’t give up just because something is inconvenient. Judd finally comes up with the idea to take Thunder to the ranch that Wyatt’s mom, Marlene, runs. She definitely seems like the right person to handle Thunder. We hope Thunder thrives here and lives his best life.
Was it a little silly to spend so much of this episode on a horse? Maybe. But animals are amazing. Thunder showed so much loyalty at the beginning by running to say goodbye to his owner. Saving Thunder helped Owen find a purpose and helped him in his grief journey. And who knows? Maybe we’ll see Thunder again before the show ends.

Rough Patch
It’s TK and Carlos’ anniversary, and they’ve hit a rough patch. Honestly, we’re not shocked. With how much these two focus on work plus Carlos’ investigation into his father’s death, there’s no wonder they can’t find time to focus on themselves. We’re glad they’re going to therapy to talk about their lives and their relationship. We also loved Carlos’ anniversary gift to TK. Was it kind of cheesy? Yes. But the idea behind it was solid. When Carlos is at home, he’s going to focus on TK and not work. With this promise and how they’re committed to each other, we think Carlos and TK are going to be just fine. At least they better be. Because we’ve already lost Judd and Grace. We can’t lose TK and Carlos, too.
We also have to note that we love that TK talked to Tommy about his relationship. It’s great that he feels so comfortable talking to his boss about his marriage. And Tommy did give him good advice. This is just another example of how the 126 is not just a place of work; they are a family.

Relationships Over Work
The other big story in “Thunderstruck” was a tour bus full of people overdosing. After TK, Nancy, and Tommy work on the victims, they learn that they are part of a drug smuggling operation. Cameron is devastated, obviously, after losing her sister, and she feels like she didn’t even know her. She spent so much time working that she didn’t pay attention and realized that her sister was in trouble. And now she’s lost her sister, and her boss wants her to redo what she spent all of her vacation working on.
This case made Carlos realize that he can’t keep obsessing over his job. Yes, his job is important. But so is his marriage. He has to find a balance, and we think he’s off to a good start. Also, we hope he doesn’t end up like his partner. He buys his wife the same exact gift for every occasion? Seriously? At least mix up the type of flowers every once and a while. We hope Carlos doesn’t take marriage advice from this guy in the future.
