A24’s Be My Baby has found its director in Barry Jenkins, the director of Academy Award winning Moonlight. He’ll be directing the beloved actress Zendaya who stars as the late singer-songwriter Ronnie Spector in this film about her life. This will be a story of Spector’s struggles with alcoholism, fame, and marriage. Which can be seen and read about in her personal memoir of the same name co-written with Vince Waldron.
Be My Baby will focus on and tell the hardships of Spector’s troubled relationship with producer Phil Spector. Additionally, Ronnie Spector had handpicked Zendaya to play her younger self before her death in 2022 according to Deadline. Therefore, it’s no surprise that Zendaya has taken such care and consideration into forming her production team for the film.

Jenkins was the last missing piece to the film joining a long list of executive producers. Mark Platt (recently attached to musical movie hit Wicked), Zendaya, Mark Atkin, Tom Shelly, Adam Seigel and Jonathan Greenfield. David Kajganich (known for writing Bones and All for Luca Guadagnino) is the film’s screenplay writer.
