I think we can all agree that the original Gossip Girl will forever be an institution and a vital part of American television. Gossip Girl was a drama that made everyone want to move to New York, learn how friendships should and should not be, and more.
The actors who were in Gossip Girl, unfortunately, were stereotyped. They are famous from the show, and breaking out of that had to have been hard.
Chace Crawford will forever be Nate. It’s something he knows, and it hasn’t been the easiest thing for him to deal with.
“In a way [Gossip Girl has] kind of become almost classic,” Crawford told People. “It really was of its time, though. It was just before social media, a little bit ahead of its time in that regard. But in watching, it’s very campy. I forget how kind of campy it was. It’s kind of fun in that way.”
“It’s the music too,” he added when speaking of Gossip Girl and the way that it affected culture. “Before it aired, they gave me a copy of the pilot to my parents, and my mom and dad probably watched it 20 times. Those songs from the pilot are so ingrained.”
But when talking about if he’s watched the show, he said, “I haven’t really rewatched any of it.”
He added, joking, “I’d be terrified. It’s a bit embarrassing.”
We definitely hope he was joking, because we think he should be proud of Gossip Girl. The show is a classic, and it continues to influence the television landscape today. Not all actors can say they were a part of something like that.
Are you a fan of Gossip Girl? What do you think of the original? Have you rewatched the show?
