Lizzie and Lyra review 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 4 “Reentry.” And honestly, it might be the best episode of the opening emergency.
Athena was literally talking herself off a ledge in this episode. Since Bobby’s passing, she’s been ignoring everything. She’s been ignoring her children, her mom, and her grief. And it’s not because she’s a bad person. It’s because Athena is grieving.
In “Reentry” Athena literally faced a younger version of herself played by Pepi Sonuga. And when her younger version questioned why keep going, Angela Bassett gave the speech of a lifetime, solidifying why she is one of the greatest actresses in Hollywood.
Like how can you not cry after hearing her tell her younger self:
“For all the moments in between. No matter how far apart they may be. Like…stars. There’s so much dark between them. Cold. Empty. Forever. But as long as there’s light… there’s hope. They keep us going, those stars, those moments. Like a dance between lovers or a laugh between friends. They pull us along, they warm us, they…blaze..with all that’s good.”
As for the rest of the cast on 9-1-1… well, not a lot happened. This was about getting Athena home. But we did clock how Eddie and Chimney are gently pushing each other on who does what at the 118. Basically, that grief over losing Bobby isn’t going to go anywhere. And with Día de Muertos around the corner, hopefully we’re going to explore that grief a little more, especially for Eddie.
