If there is one thing that I have learned watching vertical series, it is that there is some seriously deranged things that happen. I often wonder how it is that people come up with things and yet somehow I am also thankful for the drama that is created. The Husband Swap Game is woah, but also that is what made it interesting.
The series stars Shay Dinneen and if that isn’t enough to make you watch it also has Sofia López, Jake Lively, and Leigh Szymeczek. I am online enough to know that vertical series fans are obsessed with Dinneen and Lively and rightfully so.
Why do I think that The Husband Swap Game is seriously deranged? Well that’s because in the series Marcus is married to Lyra, but when she tests him after an injury and says that she lost her memory. He tells her that his brother, Ethan is her husband. Ethan doesn’t object. Marcus is happy because he can then be public with his mistress, Delilah. But did we mention Delilah and Marcus are the reason that she was injured? They tried to kill her.
Marcus is into S&M and Delilah satisfies that for him. He may be married to Lyra, but she is too vanilla for him. I mean, hey, everyone has their thing, but cheating is something that I will never be like “okay cool” with. He is excited to run around with Delilah, being led by a leash and wearing his harness.
Ethan doesn’t seem to understand his brother, but doesn’t debate him around Lyra. While I do not pretend to understand why Ethan agreed to it – at first – soon it’s apparent that he does it because he’s been in love with Lyra for forever. This is his chance to love her and be with her.
Lyra hasn’t lost her memory and she goes along with Ethan. Who can blame her? He’s hot and the abs are beautiful. Not to mention the hair. The hair is the kind you want to run your fingers through. She thought he hated her, so he felt like a safe bet.
Ethan is kind and patient with her. He wants to protect and love her. He wants her to feel appreciated and seen. It doesn’t matter what his brother thinks.
Lyra and Ethan together – he’s acting like the husband we would all want – even though we know he’s a liar. I guess sometimes lies are for the right reason. At least out of this whole situation Lyra gets to learn what a person should be loved and treated like.
Marcus is going crazy seeing his brother with his wife. He’s possessive and seeing his wife happy with someone else is driving him insane. This also means that it is driving Delilah insane.
Trying to keep two women happy is something that Marcus can’t do. He doesn’t mind what is happening when he’s in control, but when he’s seeing that his wife could love someone else – well that’s too much.
Lyra remembers everything and is confused as to why Ethan keeps sleeping with her and loving on her. She likes feeling needed and loved. As Marcus continues to break down and insist that Lyra is his wife, she continues to challenge him verbally at every turn.
Delilah ends up pregnant, Marcus continues to reject her and the child. He’s cruel to her and Lyra isn’t having it. She’s reminding him that he needs to take care of her and be a father. She’s insistent even though Delilah is the person that has wrecked her marriage.
Marcus has gone mad. His jealous is overwhelming and she puts him in his place. As it comes out that she remembers, she lets Marcus go. She wants to be with Ethan and I totally applaud that choice.
Shay Dinneen stars as Ethan and steals every scene that he is in. The actor makes Ethan come across both vulnerable and strong. Somehow as he makes Ethan reminds us that kindness is not weakness and we should embrace that.
Jake Lively plays Marcus rather well, actually overly well. There are some points where I am actually afraid of his character. He is terrifying but in a way that makes you unable to look away from the screen.
Both are definitely ones to watch.
Sofia López has been doing verticals for quite sometime and has definitely made an impression with them over the past year. Her Christmas vertical, Meet My Mafia King On Christmas, made quite the impression online. This one has TikTok commenting on her also – but in the best way. Lopez has made me want to watch her other verticals.
Verticals can be a lot of fun and a lot of crazy. There are good and bad ones. The Husband Swap Game one was a big WTF, but entertaining. What more could one ask for?
