When it comes to things upcoming, Elle makes one of our most anticipated. We can’t wait to see the Legally Blonde prequel.
We also can’t believe that it has been 25 years since Legally Blonde, but that is neither here nor there. However, Reese Witherspoon has been making the rounds to celebrate the anniversary, as well as the passing of the torch to Lexi Minetree.
As you may recall, Minetree was cast as a young Elle for the Prime Video show. We’re excited about that. In an Instagram video, Witherspoon spoke about playing Elle and about Minetree’s audition.
“I have to tell you, when I saw Lexi Minetree in her video, it stopped me. It took my breath away,” Witherspoon said.”She understood — I’m gonna cry again — she’s just such an incredible person.”
THE AUDITION
She spoke about Minetree’s audition tape – where she went in her backyard to recreate and film the Harvard application video. So genius!
Witherspoon shared, “She hadn’t just filmed a tape, she was like, ‘I don’t even know if I’m going to get this part, but I’m going to put that extra effort into this.’”
After seeing the tape, Witherspoon wanted to speak to Minetree and did a Zoom with her. She talked about how Minetree did not know that she basically had the role and also told her the responsibility of taking on the part of Elle Woods.
Witherspoon said, “I was like, ‘I want you to understand the responsibility of what this means to people. Little girls are gonna come up to you, and it’s like a massive responsibility.’”
“So I wanna say on top of being this incredibly disciplined, talented young woman, she has such a beautiful heart,” Witherspoon added. “And she told me things about her life and her family and things that just showed me her character, and I just could not be more proud to pass the baton — or the pink torch — to Lexi Minetree as the new Elle Woods.”
We’re definitely excited for this. Elle premieres on Prime Video on July 1st.
