Hulu’s You Deserve to Know proves that it pays off to be a fan of The Vampire Diaries. It’s been nearly a decade since the supernatural teen drama ended, and Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley will share the screen once again. They did so on The Vampire Diaries for six seasons, playing a couple for three of those, before Dobrev left the show as a series regular in Season 6.
Now, Dobrev and Wesley will star in Hulu’s adaptation of Aggie Blum Thompson’s 2025 book, You Deserve to Know. Excitingly, they will also hold another title in the show’s production. We’ve gathered everything we know about You Deserve to Know here, so you don’t miss a thing!
What Is ‘You Deserve to Know’ About?
Deadline, which exclusively reported the news, shared a short description of the series:
“You Deserve to Know follows three suburban couples — next-door neighbors and best friends. When one of their husbands is murdered, a shocking trail of secrets is revealed, and their friendship cracks wide open.”
If the show stays close to Aggie Blum Thompson’s book, there’s plenty more to glean from the source material’s description. Neighbors Gwen, Aimee, and Lisa, who bond through shared challenges, are rocked when Gwen’s husband is discovered murdered after a weekly dinner. “The seemingly idyllic world of the three close-knit mom friends becomes a web of deception, betrayal, and revenge,” the book’s description reads. Their friendship is tested as a police investigation ensues, stirring fear and suspicions in their neighborhood.
Brian Tanen will write You Deserve to Know. He executive produces the show alongside Unwell’s Alex Cooper, Kapital Entertainment’s Aaron Kaplan, Matt Kaplan, and Mina Lefevre.

Who Is Starring in the Drama Series?
I’m totally biased, but the most exciting thing about this show so far is that You Deserve to Know will be reuniting Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley. After Dobrev returned for the series finale in 2017, she and Wesley will share the screen once again in this Hulu series. Dobrev will play Gwen, with Wesley as Scott. They’re described as “two neighbors on opposite sides of a murder investigation, leading them on a collision course.”
As someone who hasn’t read this book (yet) but is forever disappointed that Stefan Salvatore (Wesley) and Elena Gilbert (Dobrev) didn’t end up together on The Vampire Diaries, I will hold out hope for their characters to at least share a lot of scenes. They have the chemistry for it! Their casting makes me eager to see who else will join You Deserve to Know and fill out the secretive neighborhood. Then again, I imagine just the idea of seeing Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley share the screen again — no matter their characters’ dynamic — will be enough to pull so many (myself included) into the show.
Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley will executive produce the show as well. Dobrev shared the news on Instagram, writing, in part: “I’ve been waiting to share this one. ❤️ @paulwesley and I are reuniting to executive produce and star in ‘You Deserve to Know’. We fell in love with this novel and getting to help shape its adaptation from both sides of the camera has been incredibly exciting.”
Wesley shared an Instagram post, too, writing: “Secrets out! Thrilled to be partnering again with @nina both on screen and as executive producers on ‘You Deserve to Know’.” I can’t help but love that Dobrev commented, “Some partnerships have eternal life.” The Vampire Diaries nostalgia is too real!
