Prime Video’s Young Sherlock is heading back for another mystery, and Season 2 is already shaking things up! Along with bringing back some familiar faces, the series is expanding its world with four new cast members. If you want to know more, join us as we meet the cast for this new season!
Who Is Returning for Season 2 and Who is Not?
The newcomers will join Hero Fiennes Tiffin, who returns as the young detective himself, alongside fellow returning main cast members Dónal Finn as James Moriarty, Natascha McElhone as Sherlock’s mother Cordelia, Max Irons as his brother Mycroft, and Holly Cattle as his sister Beatrice.
As exciting as the new additions are, Season 2 will also move forward without several characters. Zine Tseng, who played Xiao Wei will not be returning after her character’s story reached a satisfying conclusion in the Season 1 finale. While Tseng had previously left the door slightly open in interviews, her return was always considered unlikely once Xiao Wei’s arc wrapped up.
Joseph Fiennes is also leaving the series after Silas Holmes seemingly met his end in the Season 1 finale by jumping off a cliff. His death was never explicitly confirmed on screen, but his absence from the Season 2 cast reinforces the idea that Sherlock’s father won’t be part of the new story.
Numan Acar, who portrayed Silas’ fixer Esad Kasgarli, is also not returning. His departure follows the apparent end of Silas’ storyline, making it another major change heading into the new season. Earlier in Season 1, the series had already said goodbye to Colin Firth’s character, Bucephalus Hodge.
Behind the scenes, Guy Ritchie returns not only as an executive producer but also to direct the season premiere, continuing the vision he established with the series.
Who Is Joining Young Sherlock Season 2?
Prime Video has officially added Olivia Williams, Sophie Skelton—yes, our Brianna from Outlander—, Indira Varma, and Aidan Gillen as new series regulars for Young SherlockSeason 2!
At the moment, that’s everything Prime Video revelated. The streamer is keeping every detail about their characters a secret. That said, we can speculate!
Thanks to his long history of playing brilliant manipulators, maybe he’ll step into a major antagonist role. We imagine him as a corrupt authority figure, like a criminal mastermind operating in Victorian London.
Also, with Silas Holmes no longer around, maybe Olivia Williams or Indira Varma could portray powerful members of London’s upper class or even the matriarchs of rival families tied to the season’s central mystery.
And, since Xiao Wei’s story has officially come to an end, maybe Sophie Skelton’s character could introduce a brand-new dynamic into Sherlock’s life, whether as an ally during his investigations or someone who becomes personally important to him as the story unfolds.
