Enfrentados: Marfil (Drawn Together) is now on Prime Video, and the movie, based on the book by the same name by Mercedes Ron, ends in quite a cliffhanger. Like, if you came into this blind, you might have thought half the movie was missing. And it is, even if it isn’t.
The movie ends where it ends for one very important reason: there’s a sequel coming. Enfrentados: Ébano has already been filmed and will presumably be released sooner rather than later, because waiting after that cliffhanger is going to be pure torture.
But how does the movie end? And what does it mean for the sequel? We break it down for you.
How Does Enfrentados: Marfil (Drawn Together) End?
The movie ends with the kidnapping of Marfil Cortés (Ester Expósito). All that her bodyguard, Sebastián Moore (Hugo Diego García), has done to protect her isn’t enough, and Marfil ends up in a car with Kozel. But how did she get there?
Well, a betrayal. Marfil goes to Times Square to meet up with her dad, but only Logan, her father’s right-hand man, shows up. Logan leads her into an underground parking structure and a car waiting for them. But only Kozel is in the car, not her father. And Kozel also happens to be the guy she previously met at the horse track and shared a kiss with. Because, of course.
But Marfil didn’t walk into that meeting without a backup plan; her necklace is a listening device. However, it seems Kozel knows this, and she only has enough time to say her code word: “ébano,” before the necklace is thrown out of the window and we and Sebastián lose track of her.
What happens to Sebastián? Well, he tries to find Marfil in the parking garage, only to find a different car with her phone. And oh yes, Marfil’s dad is in the trunk, dead. The last thing we see is Sebastián surrounded by armed gunmen. So, basically, they’re both in a really, really bad place.
Does Enfrentados: Marfil (Drawn Together) End the Same as the Book?
The answer is very much no. In the book, Sebastián is not an undercover FBI agent trying to take down Marfil’s dad. Instead, he works for him before becoming her bodyguard. In the original story, Sebastián tells Marfil that the Russian mob is looking to kill her to get back at her dad, who is anything but a good guy.
Only one person can protect her: Marcus Kozel. Sebastián wants her to go to Miami and live under his protection, even though he’s also not a good guy. She refuses. Sebastián finally convinces her to go to Kozel, but it leaves Marfil feeling betrayed by the man she loves. That’s how the book ends.
Of course, the book has a sequel, Enfrentados: Ébano, and the sequel to Drawn Together has already been filmed, so the good news is: this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Marfil and Sebastián. Now the question is, will we get a happy ending? And when is the sequel even coming?
