NCIS: New York Season 1, Episode 4 ‘Homecoming’ is, if we had to guess, probably a backstory episode for Sam. We already know Sam Hanna pretty well. In fact, Sam Hanna’s entire backstory is available for even newbies to the show to look up. He’s been in multiple shows in the franchise, which means that even people who didn’t watch him for 14 seasons on NCIS: Los Angeles know about him. But the parts of him we don’t know are where this show is living.
Giving us more of Sam will probably help Nick, too. We don’t know enough of him, and that business with the subpoena and his old partner is probably not enough. But a comparison with Sam, as we see Sam’s old neighborhood? That can work. Because, as a self-proclaimed weird person, we need to peel back the layers of what makes Nick weird to try to understand him.
Also, any screen time I get with Addy and Wyatt at this point is a win. I’m invested there. I’ve still got a way to go with Nick.

Photos
Hey, NCIS: New York, we get it. Sam and Nick are the main characters here. But every week we get a bunch of pictures of them and none of anyone else. Can we get some diversity in the promo material, please and thank you? Even if Sam looks very good in green in these pictures.

Synopsis
The show teases that “a deadly armored truck robbery at the Naval Corps Credit Union sets the team in search of the sniper responsible,” which at least sounds a little interesting. Hunting a sniper is never easy, if we’ve learned anything from this franchise. “As their investigation leads them to a trail of veterans who fell through the cracks, Sam and Nick are brought to Sam’s old neighborhood in Queens,” the synopsis also says, which makes us believe we still have some things to learn about Sam.
‘Homecoming’ was written by Joe Halpin and directed by Cherie Nowlan.
Promo
Sam and Nick also feature heavily in the promo, and why is Nick screaming like that at the end? But at least there’s a little glimpse of Addy to prove someone else works in this office. Promos are too short these days, I swear.
